I personally don't like them with wings. I think they should make a new model.
What about you? Do you like their wings?

I'm not familiar with the whole Starcraft lore so I'm not sure how they 'should' look like but I absolutely love the wings. They give the Zerglings a bit of a fierce bug appearance. They remind me of a molecricket and they look quite cool and scary :D and they also have 'burrow' so they are actually quite similar and I like that.

    But zerg are not bugs.

They need stronger legs to jump furhter, not wings. Wings make them lazy.

Maybe that's why they morph into banelings.

    banelings are fat and lazy.

    1. Zerg are practical creatures and wouldn't use a sophisticated mammal-type animal for the simple task of a Zergling.

    2. Have you considered the possibility that Blizzard might call the role Zergling and not the unit? To me, the word implies the former.

Well personally i like the locust swarm feeling of them so i would want them to stay. However if there is no practical use for the wings then i would want them removed.
A practical use would be an ability to glide over certain areas over a certain period of time (Such as water, pits..ect). They also should be able to glide down from cliffs to the ground but however can not go back up.
Then it can either be passive or an ability you choose to use at your own time. When its passive zerglings would just glide over areas whenever necessary. (The passive glide down the cliff would be annoying so it would require more attention to your zerglings) Or if its not passive then you could choose the gliding ability whenever you want but however to balance things out there would be a time of how long a zergling can glide. And if its gliding over a area that they normally can go over such as water and the time runs out...then you lose the zergling. It could be an upgrade as well. (Explanation- The strengthening of the wings of zerglings to support a brief glide over areas)
Woah sry dude my post turned into some kinda theory explaining thing instead of just talking about if the zerglings should have wings or not....

    LOL
I think they don't need wings because they don't serve for anything. It's just stupid.

Actually, you don't know if they serve a purpose or not so don't call the idea stupid. I'm sure they're there for a reason which we will learn when the Zergling is revealed.
I'm not sure why. I claim that the Zergling (with the -ling that implies a 'small zerg') is just a role and not a fixed unit/animal. I'm saying basically any kind of unit could become the new Zergling in SC2 if its cost, appearance, size and abilities make it mass-producable, nice to look at and is not too far from the original one.

They need to be remodeled . We know the zerglings without wings in SC1. But as SC2 is the continuation of SC1 (yes, it is) the zerglings have no reasons to get wings, from a day to another !

SC2 picks up the story several years later. I can't find it exactly how many years later but I think it's enough time for the Zerg to evolve. I mean, the time was enough to create the Nydus Worm, a completely new unit, and the Baneling mutation so it's certainly enough to grow a lousy set of wings that most probably won't be strong enough to lift the Zergling up but to make it glide down cliffs.

I'm with kuvasz, the wings make the Zergling look awesome, and anyway, who said that the Zerg can't be an insectoid race? They have Queens, they're spawned from larvae and come in swarms... That sounds pretty insectoid to me. And you can't say 'There are no reasons for them to have wings' like so many have already:
Because no information has been released on them yet, who's to say that the Zerglings aren't the inter-tier unit for the Zerg? Protoss have the Colossus, Terran have the Reaper so Zerg are definitely going to have one. And besides even if they don't use them, I didn't hear anyone complain about Hydras having talons that they don't use.

    Also when Samir Souleyman said
    Ever heard of evolution?

in a Q&A forum i said that the lings should be able to (late game) morph to scourges instead of only banelings
    its just a flying baneling
anyway the scourges were awesome in the first game!!!

btw sc2 is 4 years afta brood war

Of course all the Zerg units are the infestation of animal taken from the nature. Of course I heard about evolution. When Brood War was released the Ultralisk got some upgrades, "evolutions", from its high exposure to Vespene Gas.Yes indeed the Ultralisk has got an evolution since SC1.

I guess what you are thinking about : the Devourer, and the Lurker. Huge evolutions for the mutalisks and the Hydralisks. There was not a lot of time between SC1 and Brood War. They well evolved !

So why can"t the zergling evolve too ? you're right indeed !

Last time i checked zerg was bugs, and btw i want my siege tanks to be able to jump over cliffs , tank rush!! (sarcasm)

From what i heard zerglings uses their wings to jump over other zerglings when they swarm(you can see that clearly in the protoss gameplay video)

Inpox, you're right. I just watched the demo.

This conversation is over I guess :) Conclusion: Wings will stay on Zerglings as they make moving in swarms easier. Not only that but I think it looks awesome with the flapping and jumping and... ah I hope I can remain a true Protoss fan :D
