Do you think the map plays a role in which units you should use as a zerg player ? Personally in large maps i use zerlings and mutas while in shorter ones i prefer roaches and hydras. (PS : sorry if there is a similar post somewhere i searched the forum (advanced) and i did not find anything similar)
first off, your signature sucks, as do lurkers, how about the fact that we now have reiver scarabs in the form of banelings, try to be a bit more positive also, terrain and map size are the two most relevant factors outside of matchups and counter tech that you should be analyzing. if you are playing LT 1v1 muta harass can be effective early on vs. some enemy locations ie, immediately adjacent where you have direct access to mineral lines without the threat of being scouted (assuming you take FE nat) However, you also have to think about defending big terran pushes in a small choke with muta/ling, not really going to be effect vs. rine/rauder/thor, also, you are going to have to tech and use a huge diversity of zerg untis if you are playing zvt zvp, it's just the nature of how zerg is being played right now. So first priority is Matchup Second priority is Counter Tech Third priority is effective Harrass Fourth priority is Terrain
You do understand that my signature's supposed to be a bit funny - ironic. I do love starcraft 2 and even if i did not, it would not be because there are no lurcers.... Also as far as the topic is concerned i did not state that my priority in my build was the map size , but as you say it is one of the things you should consider. Anyway...
well..... i wont change my strategy much compared to the map size....maybe xD but i haven't thought about it ^^
Map size doesn't matter for me as well. I try to focus more on the race my opponent it playing and working to counter their units. For bigger maps I try to use nydus worm to quickly move units place to place. Or have scouts all over the map to gain sight of my opponent and what he's planning
I don't think it matters what you go for but it does affect what you may produce in the during the entire time of the match. I know that Nydus Worm can help movement but they can still be destroyed and hydras and roaches still aren't very fast. In a big map, I make a solid ground force and move them out, but I still have Mutas as well, that way I can be all over the map, scouting and raiding with a quick force and have a larger one to attack with.
i think that map size is irrelevant since units can easily be transported by nydus worms as said above. Terrain on the other hand is completely crucial. the terrain can make a weak army win against a stronger army. You have to consider choke points, high ground, range of units and if there are steams of gas or high grass that blocks vission and how easy it is to surround the oponent, especially as zerg. you should plan your battles and chose the terrain if possible. in my experience it has made the difference. hope it helps
If the map size is relatively large, I wouldn't want to do a Roach push. Roaches without speed + large map = suicide But mainly, map size does not change what units I want to use. Map size changes when I want to attack or expo.
