    Zerg Unit: Queen
    [IMG]
What do you all think of the zerg's most powerful unit, the Queen?

The zerg queen from the original starcraft has been completely redone and is possibly the strongest zerg ability caster. She has gained access to new mechanics as well as a basic attack. Unlike the original, the new queen has a one unit build limit.

Instead of being a medium sized areal unit, the new queen is now a ground unit roughly the same size as the ultrasilk. It is a melee attacker, but looks like it has a small range as well since it could attack marines without having to get right next to them. It's total damage currently does at least 12 damage a hit. However, it's like the protoss zealot, who's attack is divided my two because it's attack animation attacks twice.

She is available after you build a spawning pool and is the first zerg unit to require gas.

Here are the current abilities of the zerg queen as of Blizzcon '08

Below are the stats for the Queen

    Queen

    Type: Ground/Biological/Light
    HP:250
    Max Energy: 150(starts at 50)
    Minerals: 200
    Vespene: 100
    Supply: 2
    Build time: 25 seconds
    Requires: Spawning Pool
    Built From: Hatchery/Lair/Hive
    Attack Damage(ranged): 6x2 Ground/Air
    Armor (type): 0 (Light)

When new info is released, I will update this thread to make it a useful guide to the stats and mechanics of the Zerg's most powerful unit, the Queen.

the game has yet to be finalized and is still in the pre-alpha phase
all information is liable to change in the coming months
I will update when time allows

I think that one of the special buildings might be the Nydus Worm.

    BTW, add Queen pictures.

    Re: Zerg Queen

It is nothing like an equivilant.

The Mothership functions purely as a war machine but the Queen helps maintain many aspects of the Zerg. But I don't know much about the Queen so I can't give a full analysis.

But the queens attack is measured up by the amount of hits it gives. Each stab does 30 cuz it took the Queen around 4 cycles to kill a Viking. And if the Viking has something like 120 HP that translates to:
    30x4 = 120
Each stab may do 40 as it took the Queen 3 attack cycles to kill a Viking.
    40 x 3 = 120
But Vikings have 125 HP unless their HP has changed since Blizzcon, plus armor deductions. So maybe the Queen does 45 per hit?
Also note it took the Queen two hits within one attack cycle to kill a Marine meaning each individual stab could not be 40.

Also i think theres a certain effect radius when the Queen is near buildings for them to get these attack spores. It does attack air too.

One area which confuses me are people are saying Overlords can spawn creep, and people say Queens automatically spawn creep?

I mean equivalent as in 'only 1 allowed and has many abilities'.

As for pictures, I can't find any decend ones yet, but that's cuz I haven't time atm to find one.

The Queen can melee now? Sweet! Is it an air or ground unit? School internet won't allow me to see the vid(s) until 9pm East :(

    Re: Zerg Queen

EDIT: original thread post has been updated with a ingame picture, more thurough introduction, and clearer about the queen's attack.

It would have been better originally, but I was limited on time due to classes.

I will try to find new information (others sites or from this one) for the queen and update this thread regularly. If anyone finds something I've forgotten, please post it and I will update when time allows.

    Re: Zerg Queen

I love this unit, especially the deep tunneling. The queen will be the ultimate weapon when micromanaged right. I'm not sure about the different type of creep though... do we need that? Creep should be no more than a sign of Zerg presence.

ps attached a render which shows it somewhat better.

    Re: Zerg Queen

I am loving the new zerg "super unit". The queen is by far my favorite zerg unit, it presents the idea of the leadership caste for a swarm. I imagine it starts out weaker, since it seems to be built early in the game, but it can upgrade to become more powerful. Being able to build a unit as strong as an ultralisk at tier 1 would be kind of unfair. The queen that was able to kill a marine in a single attack sequence was probably upgrade a bit.

    Hail to the queen, baby!

It would be funny if Kerrigan evolved into something like this

    Re: Zerg Queen

Well a lot of Progamers there mentioned/complained about how she was pretty hyped.
Her HP is supposedly very low. When upgrading to Lair, and later on Hive, she gets more and more powerful though.

    Re: Zerg Queen

The sunkern and spore colonies have been replaced by the queens defencive abilities, so it's fairly balanced out.

I like the queen, and her ability to be the center of defence means no more having to sack drones. Yay, a victory for the zerg economy.

No it's not. The video must've shown a UMS map where the two armies had continuously spawning units at the back.
