Yes, it is possible to still play starcraft 2 before the game is released. I’ve put together a little guide below for those who don’t already know how to participate in this wonderful little nugget of surprise. With this trick you can play any map you already have, and any that are sprinkled throughout the interwebs. As you know, a lot of the standard maps don’t have AI built into them…. So you say, what’s the point? I don’t want to play with only myself… (at least not on the computer). But some wonderful people out there (slightlyrandom, Fropper, Nashoa, ashgad, and HydrO) have conjured up some maps that have native AI in the form of tower defenses and arcade games. This means you can get your SC2 fix through the next (now slightly less) unbearable week. The following steps will guide you on your way. (To be able to play, you must have been in the beta before it closed, and patched to the latest patch) 1. Download StarCraft 2 maps that you want to play 2. Find your StarCraft 2 folder (for instance C:\ StarCraft II Beta) 3. Open up StarCraft II Editor.exe (this is the map editor) 4. Click ‘File -> Open’ and locate a map you downloaded 5. In the top right-hand corner is the play button called “Test Document”. (see attached screenshot) This images shows the play button. Just press it and the editor is inter connected to SC2. You're off! Enjoy!
I've thought about this exceapt I'd be more interested in using a standard skirmish map. I haven't really messed with it, I don't even know if the AI would play like a normal comp stomp.
