StarCraft2Forum.org has received information from an unconfirmed source that the Xel'Naga could be playable in the single player portion of StarCraft 2. This is purely speculation at this point as the source cannot be confirmed.

According to an anonymous e-mail the Xel'Naga will play a similar lore role to the Old Gods from World of WarCraft who were imprisoned for a long period of time before being freed. They will supposedly seek revenge upon the Zerg for the destruction they have wreaked on the Universe.

However, these revelations are contradictory to statements released by Blizzard which put into question the validity of the claims.

The source is the same anonymous provider of the Swarm Guardian screenshots which were provided to us in May. You can read that article here.

So the news is that one of the 1057480 speculations went by mail to you?

Why is the standard for news being lowered?

I would think that the Xel'Naga would be in the campaign story line, but I wouldn't think they would be playable, otherwise why not just make a whole new race.

More speculation I see. Well, it would be kinda cool to play them but I doubt it would be implemented.

This source has been right about some things in the past. It's the same e-mail from which the Swam Guardian screenshots came.

I wouldn't post it as news if I didn't think there was a good chance it could be true. Even if it is speculation. ;)

Yeah. Which is why I have reason to doubt the source. But at the same time the person who said that was Frank Pearce and he didn't specify anything about single player.

Well blizzard has stated in the past that single player will have special features that won't be available in multiplayer. They've always hinted there will be units that aren't a actual race or used in multiplayer that will be used in single player. It seemed they were hinting towards the hybrids but this could just as easily what they were hinting at.

I'd be more surprised if they weren't in there from what blizzard has said. The Xel'naga will probably work the same as the naga from WC3. They will be a few a special units in a few missions but not an actual full race. So I think there's a very strong chance the source is right.

    It wouldn't surprise me.
They did that inThe Frozen Throne.

Not only did the alliance campaign have non-standard units but you were able to play the Naga.

Command & Conquer did this as well. In C&C III there was even a scrin campaign. (Of course, unlike StarCraft, the new alien race was available in multiplayer.)

Hmm, I wonder what kind of units they will have. Hm, Hm, Hm, Hm, Hmmm,

    Capital ships, any guesses?

Some type of Land dreadnoughts maybe?

    Peugeot?

EDIT: Wait a minute. There was a moment in protoss history where the dark Templar where banished. They were placed on board a working Xel N'aga transport or freighter. Any info about this ship?

they will have world ships bigger than the motherships which looks like a big temple structure. if xelnaga will be a race, a good building mechanic for their ground units would be like in the battle realms rts game.

I don't think the Xel'Naga should ever be playable in any way. I know I'll get bashed continuously for saying that, but I think the Xel'Naga should just stay in the background lore.

I completely agree with TheOneInPower. The Xel'Naga are so enigmatic and mysterious, any appearance would be a let down, and that's not mentioning what becoming a playable race would do. Basically, there's nothing that could be done to make the Xel'Naga, as a known race, as revered as they are now. I'd rather it if the Xel'Naga aren't even seen.

Remember, Zeratul just says the Xel'Naga return, not that they've returned.
