Okay, so before everyone gets all frantic, let it be known that I searched the forums, and nothing good on this topic could be found, just crap and rumors.

DISCLAIMER: Nothing you are about to read is coming from any citable sources, Blizzard, or anyone else. This is all flowing out of my little mind.

And yeah, I guess I do have fun making threads that will be flamed to the ground. But as everyone should already know, if you are mindlessly flaming me, I don't care what you have to say. I would however like to hear sensible, constructive feedback.

As everyone knows, the Warcraft series, World of Warcraft, and Starcraft are wildly popular and critically acclaimed games. I think that a Starcraft MMORPG similar to WoW would be freaking awesome and fun to play. Since I don't play WoW anymore, and I'm really not a fan of the Warcraft universe, I think making an MMORPG set in the Starcraft universe would be freaking sweet.

Also, in my eyes, this would be MOSTLY PvP based. I really don't see how PvE would tie in with Starcraft.

Here's how it should work, if my head is screwed on straight (probably not):

Keep in mind this is going to be WoW-esque.

Three Playable Races: Terran, Protoss, and Zerg.

Each race has their own unique playable classes.

    Terran Classes:
    Marine (ranged dps)
    Firebat (caster dps)
    Medic (healer)
    Marauder (ranged dps/tank)
    Ghost (stealth, ranged dps)
    Reaper (close quarters dps)

Terrans are mostly range-based. They have average damage and armor.

    Protoss Classes:
    Zealot (melee dps)
    High Templar (caster dps)
    Dark Templar (stealth melee dps)
    Archon (tank/CQ dps)

Protoss are more powerful individually, but have less roles filled and take more damage. They also have their rechargable shields like in the RTS.

    Zerg Classes:
    Zergling (fast melee dps)
    Hydralisk (ranged dps)
    Roach (ranged dps)
    Ultralisk (tank/melee dps)
Infestor (utility caster, can control player it mind controls)

Zerg are less powerful individually, but take a little less damage, can regen their health, and can burrow.

Terran Starting Zone would be Mar Sara.
    Protoss would have Shakuras.
I honestly have no idea where zerg would start, maybe an infested terran planet, or Aiur?

But different planets would be like different zones in WoW.

PvP Battlegrounds would have to be 3-way. The different races would be their 3 different factions, instead of 2 in WoW.

The level cap would have to be like 20 or 30, but it would take like the same time to get that as 70 in BC.

Also, before everyone gets all upset about how armor and different gear would look on zerg and stuff like that, remember that these would only have to loosely resemble their RTS counterparts.

Also, please know that this is just a rough idea I had in my head, none of this is meant to be balanced or work out right, I am just throwing this out there.

Thanks for reading, I will probably update this as I get more ideas or I get good feedback.

I've thought long and hard about the logistics of a World of Starcraft, and I keep coming to one stumbling block.

How would you upgrade Zerg gear?

it don't have to be like that, it can be like, for every 3000 hp that a zerg unit is damaged, it gets more armour.
you don't HAVE to loot stuff, y'aknow ;)

    Simple. The Prototype method.
Zerg assimilate genetic material to evolve at an incredible rate. They would "loot" genetic material. At each level, you get to improve your character, depending on what you looted. Same goes for talent trees. Evolving down a certain path seems even more realistic to me then the standard system from WoW. I mean, how the **** can you suddenly know how to cast spell X after killing a Y amount of boars?!

Problem solved. Get to work Blizzard. :p

By the way, I remember at least 4 or 5 threads on this. A part might have been lost during the last site revamp, or something.

    FORUM REVAMP??? WHEN???
I remember so many threads like this....
    Good times...

There should be PvP and PvE servers.

    PvP:

StarCraft is an intergalatic battlefield, and differing factions can vie for control of areas, kinda like Warhammer. A faction can be defeated by completely conquering all of its territories, and especially holding its capital. Once a faction's territories are completely captured, they can have "revolutions" which occur periodically and attempt to regain territory.

Once one faction has controlled everything, players gain a massive exp (and some $$) bonus, and the server is either reset, or massive spawns of other factions help re-even the battlefield.

    Races:
    Terran
    Zerg
    Protoss
    (obv.)

    Factions:

    Terran:
    Kel-Morian Combine
    Dominion
    Raynor's Raiders
    UED

    Protoss:

    Zeratul/Artanis's DT/Zealot Force
    Ulzeraj's Renegade Protoss

    Zerg:
    Kerrigan's Swarm
    Daggoth's Renegade Zerg
    Duran

    Classes
    Terran:
    Soldier (Assault, Attacking, Tank, Warrior-type)
Assassin (Speed, Quick Attacks, Dodge, Hunter-Thief-type)
Mercenary (Range, mix of all, All-Rounder-type)
    Medic (Healing, Support-Cleric-type)
    Pysker (Pyschic powers, Mage-type)
    Commander (Summons, recruits, Warlock-Summoner-type)

Zerg: (these are the hard classes... all infested, maybe?)
Infested (can be developed in pretty much any way...)

    Protoss:
Initiate (trainee, becomes Zealot, can gain [irreversible option] to turn into Dragoon/Immortal)
Empowered (uses psychics to strengthen himself, Paladin-type)
    Templar (high or dark, Wizard-type)

Terran gains upgrades through "stat points" and purchasing additional weapons, armor, wargear, vehicles, upgrades, etc.
Psychics train their psychic abilities to strengthen their powers

Zerg gain evolution points, to evolve, and also infesteds can use weapons, armor, etc...

Protoss train their combat skills, can gain additional equipment, etc..
    Also Psychics...

Characters can "evolve" class to gain additional benefits.

    e.g.
    Initiate - Zealot
    Mercenary - Sniper
    Medic - Doctor
    Commander - Captain
    Infested - Infested (close combat)
    Templar - Judicator

    Planets:

    Korhal (Dominion)
    Char (Swarm)
    <insert name> (Duran)
Hyperion (Raynor, does not have territory)
    Aiur (Ulzeraj)
    Earth (UED)
    Moria (Combine)
    Shakuras (Zeratul)
    Mar Sara

    Weapons:
    etc.etc.etc
    Warp Blade
    Storm Blade
    Assault Gun
    Laser Cannon
    Evolved Claws
    Blade of Khas

    Armor:

    etc.etc.etc.
    Developed Carapace
    Armor of the Emperor
    Sacred Shield of the Fallen

    Vehicles:

    etc.etc.etc.,
    Behemoth Tank
    Destructor-class Battlecruiser
    Overlord
    Overseer

    Equipment:
    Wings

As you can see, in a MMO, "fluff" (story facts) CAN be altered, changed, etc...

"TheMarine: Hey, guys, lets PK that Hydra!!!"
    "RoflIWillKickYourAss: Let's go!"
    "1n5an1ty-Ex: I call any drops!!!"

That's all nice, but Duran isn't a Zerg, and not infested. He's not even human. You might want to replace that faction.

I'm sure Blizzard will have a fun time figuring that one out.

I would much rather see it become an MMORTS.... The Starcraft universe isn't mean for individual characters... I mean it wouldn't make sense ..... I mean Starcraft has massive armies attacking each other.. One character isn't going to make a difference unless he has an army behind his back.

There are plenty of individuals such as Raynor, elite mercenaries, Hunter Killers, Torresques, rogue Templar, etc. And who said that Blizzard wouldn't be able to figure out the lore? They thought up plenty of new stories for WoW. Not that everybody likes them as much as Blizzard intended, but still not bad.

Why are some always so concentrated on bashing game and map concepts? Nobody would force you to play them. Just let those who would want it enjoy themselves... :

"Nobody would force you to play them."

However, any damage to the lore would persist in any newer games of StarCraft.

    cough..retcon..cough

Ever heard of Zelda, WoW, Metroid, C&C, etc. Massive lore changes/retcon in each part. People buy it like they'll die if they don't play it.

I honestly don't care how much is added, as long as it's good. Also, lore is important, but gameplay should come first in my opinion. But like I said, that's just me.

Yes, but these individuals are followed by armies. In WoW you have more epic heroes than regular citizen

if you gave each WoW player a sword and teleported them into Azeroth, they would be able to take Orgrimmar

Warcraft was big armies too. You are acting like Warcraft and Starcraft are massively different, not talking about the future/technology differences.

Warcraft always had smaller armies than SC and especially 3 where Heroes had a huge part in battles

and storyline-wise there is a huge difference as well

In Starcraft, the heroes lead armies. In Warcraft the armies open up the path for the heroes
