I've noticed that the SCVs have the highest HP out of all workers (60 compared to the protoss and zerg's 40). ) Of course I tried to rationalize why the SCVs have more HP: probably since they will be in more exposed to attack (having to repair and build etc...) unlike the other races which build in a way that an opponent must destroy a building completely for the building process to stop. However, one thing kept on bugging me (I don''t know if it's just me) but I feel the higher HP would be an imbalance on how fast a race's economy can be crushed by an opponent. It would take more time for SCVs to blow up and at the same time (if the player uses the SCVs to fight against the units attacking them) the SCVs would have an overall higher damage dealt since they can inflict damage for a longer period of time (given their HP). I think it would be better if all workers get the same HP so that there would be no imbalance when it comes to defending/destroying an economy. Besides, since the SCV HP is still 60, they are now tougher to be sent to repair in combat still. What does everyone think?
didnt we already have a thread about this? hold on ill look edit: interesting, i cant seem to find the thread, either 1. it was deleted. 2. its name is different and it somehow got to the idea of changing the workers health. or 3. the words im using to search with are bringing me nothing. anyway, i think the general thought is to leave the workers health alone, do to the fact that the SCV is really the only one that goes to the front line to help in an attack, and is therefore in more danger more often.
there have been a discussion about this in another thread...a thread that was about something else. Itza gave a few good reasons why SCV have 60 hp...though i cant remember what they were. One of them was yes, because they are exposed to enemies when building/repairing. atm..i cant find that thread. >.>
In SC1 the SCV's HP was 60 compared to the drone's and probe's 40 as well (probe being 20 HP and 20 shields) and that never really resulted in an issue of imbalance. I am going to have to agree with lurkers above me that it has to do with the fact that SCVs functions include battlefield maintenance of vehicles and structures as well as resource gathering and building. So SCVs are the only workers that really have a place inside combat which justifies the increased HP.
the problem with SCVs is that when they build, they are vulnerable probes can just warp buildings and drones, well... wave goodbye to them if you build something... then you pressed ESC and..... oh sh*t so to make up for the SCVs lack in functionality during building, they added more HP well, atleast i think thats the reason
That requires a ton of micro, and an scv cant repair itself while its scouting (which is when a worker would need to recover HP the most). If you play Terran even once, you'll realise how little use repairing is.
If you don't repair things as Terran, go play Protoss or Zerg. I always have 4 - 5 SCVs near my frontlines in case my Wraith harassment squad needs a tune-up. Or maybe some Zerglings managed to swarm a bit before my ground forces could deal with them, and some of my tanks were scratched.
I agree, anyone who says repairing on terran is useless either doesn't know how to play terran to their full extent, or knows some super amazing secret strategy they need to tell me.
