Lol, Microsoft must be getting desperate. Windows 7 is basically Vista with a few changes to 'improve' it.

Now you can download it for free on the official Microsoft site. Anybody here who tried it yet? Is it any good?
I would rather stick with XP, but that Vista only label on new games is so annoying. Freaking Microsoft is just forcing people into buying Vista. But do the government monopoly watch dogs give a ****? Nope, because they are both made by Microsoft. They can do nothing.

7 is great. Definitely give it a try. I know a lot of people who know many things about computers.. and they all agree that 7 totally beats Vista's ass. Its basically what Vista should have been, XP with slight improvements, great graphics, and it consumes less RAM than XP.

    Less RAM then XP?
    *Miracle*

I might try it then, but I fear for even more driver/compatibility issues. Not working games and printers in Vista are a pain, or so I have heard.

It's much more than Vista. I'd get it in an instant except I don't think most of my modifications are 7 compatible yet.

Well, Uncle Bill and his crew basically said that it was build with Vista as a basis, so this is something I find hard to brand as entirely new. They just need to build it from the ground up again. Also:
    Lol @ no source.

This is exactly how these rumourst start in the first place. xD Or do you happen to have a link? Cause that would be pretty neat. I want a new version of XP on my new system. -soon to be bought, I hope-

Quite the opposite, they're cutting all support.

I'm downloading it as we speak, and I haven't even tried vista ONCE yet.

I will probably get a legal version when it comes out, gotta see how I like the RC.

Forgive me for living in a backwater country that doesn't have the technology to link someone else's words.

My dad read it somewhere that they might be bringing the XP back (cutting support is way old news) because of smaller/older computers that can't handle Vista.
Also something about Vista getting axed.

Not sure how that'd fit with the new OS, if it really takes less resources than XP.

I was also wondering about that. I probably has something to do with better use of what RAM is available, rather then actually using less of it. Like more processes using the same files, because now XP has a crapload of .dll files and stuff like that. As for better performance: yeah right.

So what if Win7 is "from" Vista?
    XP was from Win2k ffs.

So what? Vista sucked. That's we we can download this for free in the first place. This was rushed to satisfy angry Vista users, but why base it on Vista then? I know Windows 7 is better and all, but it just feels ironic.

Appearantly, a lot. To many people who have it have been telling others that it sucks, somehow. Now Microsoft is having troubles with selling Vista.

Also, this is essentialy a forced upgrade. The only way to be able to play certain games, use DirectX 10, and some other things, is to go with Vista. Especially since Microsoft is no longer supporting the XP version.

Now all that should cause no problems. However, you have to pay for switching to Vista. That essentialy makes this a forced upgrade that costs you money. Hardware has had this for yours, but this is still a fairly new phenomenon amongst software. Sure, there are cases like anti-virus software. Still, you can choose for a free alternative in many cases. Windows users can switch to Linux, but, you know.
And then I have yet to start talking about driver and compatibility issues for older software and hardware...

    7 is good.

It has a lot more features, etc. and is a lot more stable now. (yes its in beta)
And the 2h shutdown is to prevent you from playing too much . :p
