I have been curious for some time if the roles you played in starcraft 1, like the terran magistrate, the zerg cerebrate, and the protoss executor will be actual characters in Starcraft 2.

If so, I think Matt Horner was the magistrate you played in the starcraft 1 original's terran campaign, and Artanis' chief assistant, the female executor Silendas is actually the executor you played as in both the original and expansion pack of starcraft 1. As for the Zerg Cerebrate you played as in starcraft 1, that was created to protect Kerrigan in the original, and ironically ended up serving her in the expansion may just be a character in starcraft 2 as well.

So, what do you all think?

Math is not the magistrate. sorry dude. See the novel Queen of Blades, if you wana know who he is.
About the Protos, i think unlikly but not imposible. And the Zerg, wel thats the posibility, or you end up eas the cerebrate again.

It has been confirmed that these "characters" won´t reapear, they were plotholes anyway. It was obvious that "your" character didn´t fit in with the story and it was completely forgettable. It would take minimal effort to rewrite SC to the extend that you control Raynor in chapter 1, the overmind in chapter 2, etc...

Really? I liked to have a character for myself as I could imagine the character as I am.

I knew that Matt Horner was just like an assistant for James Raynor in Wikipedia.

But good idea to make us see that dimension .:)

Thats sort of off topic, but sure. At least for campaign and not multi player.

I too liked the feeling of being an actual in game character with my own identity. They could have pulled it off better though. Like being able to choose who to help and who to tell the swarms a comin and your gonna leave them to rot. Sort of like in StarWars: KotoR; as long as it didn't lead to diffrent storylines, just a more imersive feeling.

Or you may decide to take a short cut in one misson; tell a Protoss settlement to screw off. Then a few missions down you get an incoming message:

"Greetings Commander. Our carrier fleet is in position to aid you against the Zerg offensive....how ever due to your noble decision to ignore my people in their time of need, I must keep our fleet close for our own protection. Good luck Commander..."

he got killed by zeratul on char after he killed zasz and th eovermind and the swarm went to aiur. kerrigan staid behind to hunt on three of the parties that came when she was in the chrysalis, zeratul was there, tassadar and raynor. that was the moment zeratul and tassader joined together. in the end they had to defeat kerrigan which was surrounded by the players broods. so tassadar, with his new awesome void powers, and raynor, pow chicka pow pow, lured kerrigan to them and at the moment kerrigan saw them and connected with the players overlord to the cerebrate, zeratul shredded him to pieces, not only disturbing the brood, which went nuts, but weakening kerrigan as welll, who now had to fight a platoon of zealots, dark templar, marines, zeratul, tassadar and raynor on her own. at the end she fled.

Unfortenately, it doesn't look like they'll reappear, which is a pity. I, too, enjoyed playing a role of my own in the story, even though it was poorly done. They could easily have included it in sc2 and made it LOTS BETTER, but noooo, they remove it. Buggers. :(

That would explain a few things. I kinda like Matt Horner, I hope he gets to do something epic. Ok maybe not.

No, and for a very good reason I think. The way we played in the original SC allowed us to watch the world unfold before us without having to make decisions that would adversely affect the storyline and made it quite easy to make the character you play into yourself. The new way where we take the role of a major player in the SC universe allows us to see a more fleshed out and concrete vision of SC through many different and unique ways. Say for example that we play as Zeratul for part a mission and run into Kerrigan. The battle would progress and we would see what goes down from Zeratul's perspective. We would also then see the aftermath of that battle. Not just a small transmission scene where the characters chat. This new perspective will be great to play and I feel that it will be able to be properly justified in the end, although, the constant exchange between we like and do not like this.

Since the magistrate was only a plot device we have to ask ourselves who Jim Raynor was actually talking to during those periods. The magistrate of Mar Sara was an actual character but Raynor could have been talking to Michael Liberty as well during those last few parts. I think that Raynor might have actually talked to the Magistrate and assisted in evacuating the colonists to the wastelands but after that he probably split up and just hung with Liberty.
