Yes they will be able to. I'm on a Mac and I played with friends who were on both Mac and Windows computers during the beta..

given how the majority of gaming these days is done on consoles, i had to stop myself from facepalming and realize it was a legitimate question for kids these days.

It would be harder for Blizz to seperate them than to put them together, so yes.

And it would lose Blizzard much revenue if they separated them as well.
it's not hard to separate them. Easy to make code so Mac and Windows versions log into different servers. But Blizzard would never do this. Cause they care about all of their customers equally.

...which is not true but that's what they want to show :D

But yeah it would actually take effort to separate the two than leave them together, plus it'd otherwise be hard for that 1% to find opponents :p

I don't think they'd lose that much revenue by neglecting mac, it's not really a gaming computer anyways. People could just run windows on their macs.

If 0.5% of their players uses a mac, that would mean losing 100.000 customers(assuming 20 million sales, which seems probable)

20 million sales? That's errrr... optimistic.

Blizzard has a habit of breaking records with every new product(20 mill is maybe a bit much, yeah. I like being optimistic) IIRC the last WoW expansion had 16 million sales. Somewhere between 15 and 18 doesnt seem that odd than.

i doubt StarCraft will outsell Modern Warfare unless we're counting all expansions and over a long period.

i think it will beat modern warfare pretty easily. we really haven't seen a good RTS released for years... supreme commander looked promising but ended up being nothing but a big macro-fest of symmetrical races. C&C is just.... an EA game. let's leave it at that.

on top of that, blizzard is now a HUGE company. they were popular among fans and hardcore gamers back when they released starcraft, but let's face it- there weren't any advertisements for SC that i can remember. they sold close to 11 million copies. nowadays, thanks to WoW, any time blizz lifts a pinky they will make newspaper headlines. and they can actually afford major ads. and they have a much larger, existing fanbase to help with word-of-mouth. professional leagues and tournaments, maps and mods will keep the game community active and sales up when MW2 servers are nearly empty.

let me repeat that: starcraft, almost no advertising, blizzard is a nearly-unknown company, and sold almost 11 million. starcraft 2, they are advertising on TV, AIRPLANES, getting press on non-gaming news, have at least 10x the fanbase, existing tournament, league and community mapmaking support...

1 million copies on the first day is not unrealistic. 10 million within a month, to me, is a good goal. 20 million over the lifetime of the product would be lowballing it.

Modern Warfare 2 sold 12 million in a few days. It will undoubtedly beat StarCraft 2 in how fast it sells. However, StarCraft 2 is a game about longevity that most of the people will keep coming back to. It will easily outsell it in the long ran as I said. I wouldn't be surprised if it sold that much in South Korea alone.

As I said before, the hold up was in how fast it sells; not lifetime copies sold.

We're talking about mac compatibility, so we are talking lifetime sales.

considering you need to buy the top-of-the-line iMac to run SC2 on ultra right now (actually, i'm not totally sure the 27-incher can handle ultra... you might have to upgrade to a mac pro), you'd have to wait a couple years for mac hardware to catch up and max out SC2.
