Okay so recently I had my graphics card replaced from 7900GS to ati 5770. All was working fine until one day I was playing sc2 and there were white dots all over the map... The first time I did not think much of it but yesterday it happened again but this time there were orange/red stripes: http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/7264/screenshot2010082015530.jpg These stripes were found at certain places on the map but it basically filled everything up. My specs are m2n-e mobo 2g ram amd athlon x2 6000+ dual core 5770 graphics card fsp 450w Could this be a power supply issue?
First off , post a dxdiag (64-bit dxdiag if you are running 64-bit windows!). 2nd, please install HWMonitor and see if your graphics card is overheating. Post a screenshot after playing the game.I suspect that the random white dots you are seeing are merely artifacts from ATI rendering that you are not used to. Try installing the newest driver from AMD and see if it still occurs. Also, is the SCV supposed to be alive in that pic? ;
I am running vista 32 bit and the graphics card comes with a program called ATI Catalyst Control Center which tells me the temperature of the graphics card. At idle it is 33 degrees and when playing it can shoot up to 40 so I don't think it is an overheating probelm. I am using 10.3 as a driver instead of 10.7 due to the issues of installing it, I get BSODs. Many people have had issues with AMD's drivers 10.4 and up and through google research I have determined that 10.3 may be the safest to stick with. As for the SCV what do you mean by alive lol
I am sure that your older drivers are the issue. If you can't install the newer drivers, perhaps there is a BIOS update for your video card? What Make and "exact" model is your video card?
Those orange stripes look like the texture for the colossus! I'm guessing some terrain and unit model textures are being confused in your graphics memory.
Old drivers are old drivers. If they can't be installed because of a BSOD, then the solution is to figure out HOW to get them installed. These drivers are obviously too old for SC2. Reading up online, seems issues post 10.3 REALLY are common. WTF. Here is a thread on a forum of some people who got things to work. In is pretty much what I thought: 1) Uninstall old Catalyst driver. 2) Restart 3) Install new Catalyst driver 4) Restart These peeps were using an overclocking tool for MSI. If you have something like that, might want to disable it and follow the steps they provide. When I had an ATI card, this is the way I had to install every ATI driver update. I always install my drivers, even nVidia, using this method,
