Why I hate this over-reliance on the internet connection BS (rant)

(sorry, this is probably in the wrong place)

So today, for whatever reason, my modem is disconnecting every 2-5min. This is of course, not enough time to finish a match (it's just enough time to come and b-tch on these forums)

Basically, the internet is far from a perfect technology. And all this talk of “Bnet replaces LANs” and “you'll need to keep connected even for single player in the future!” scares me witless. And for what? So pirates will take a day or two longer to crack the game? So that I can post my achievements on facebook? Give me a break.

And I'm currently sitting in a first world country. My home country, South Africa, has hundred of gamers, mostly with really really bad, yet expensive internet connection. Having this over-reliance on the internet is just cruel to them.

There, that's my rant.

 

I agree, my internet connection has major issues as well which is annoying since everyone puts more and more online

 

When I make games, I don't require players to always be online.


But not one of my games to date has a multiplayer mode
