    In the synopsis of the time between SC I and II, Blizzard reveals that "even though she was the most powerful force in the Koprulu sector following her defeat of the UED expeditionary force, Kerrigan withdrew her forces to Char... although her ultimate attack may come at any moment."

    Now, why did she do that?

    My hunch is that she's having trouble controlling the Zerg for some reason, perhaps some of her pet cerebrates are coming to their senses again and she needs to keep a lid on it. So, she's repusled her enemies and now is looking to get the Zerg into a hardened state where she has to focus much less on keeping them in line and more on moving the swarm towards particular ends.

    There are a number of reasons she could be having trouble controlling the Zerg, but I think the most significant could be:

    1.) Her ghost condition reasserts itself and is suppressing her psionic abilities.

    2.) Duran has seeded the Zerg he worked amongst with impulses to knock Kerrigan slightly off balance while he works with the hybrids.

    Another hint we get from Blizzard is the cameo by Kerrigan and her fight with Zeratul inside what is obviously a Zerg lair, where Kerrigan seems ot have been caught resting on her laurels by the Protoss assassin. So, if Zeratul was able to infiltrate Kerrigan's fortress, it would seem that Kerrigan's withdrawl to Char also gave her opponents some ability to study her defenses from the shadows and make plans. But, perhaps I assume too much...

    What are Kerrigan's motives again? Overmind wanted to add protoss into the swarm, did she? I know she feels used by Mengsk...but whats the sense of a sentient being destroying all life except for her mindless swarms?

    Your forgetting the brood war epilogue... Remember kerrigan had a feeling that something far more deadly than the UED was soon to arrive and my theory is that in this time period she is attempting to find out what it is....

    that wasn't inside a zerg structure of any form i believe, it was in some form of cave.... and with recent artwork releases i can tell that this planet (which i have named planet cave) is some form of a former Xel'naga stronghold or temple and thus if my idea is correct (that kerrigan is trying to find out what this "new enemy" might be) then it may be the place where we shall find our answers....

    maybe she uses overlords like telescopes and is looking through space for the hybrids or Xel'naga (if she even knows about them)

    Interesting indeed... I find the info on Planet cave very interesting and right for speculation yet few have.... I have gathered a few links to artwork that may help us unravel the mysteries of the planet and kerrigans absence.

    http://www.starcraft2.com/art.xml?s=43 Zeratul stands before a massive entrance, look at the top.... Could this be the face of the Xel'naga?
    http://www.starcraft2.com/art.xml?s=30 An artwork of the "zeratul kerrigan fight" Look at the background how is it similar to that of the entrance?
    http://www.starcraft2.com/art.xml?s=3 this creature stands before another shot of the cave... It could be a hydralisk.. Or something more....

    Maybe she is building up her forces just to be sure that she doesn't loose. Of course, you wouldn't think that it would take that long, since they are zerg. She is probably forgot to spawn more overlords.

    I believe that Kerrigan knew about Duran the whole time and that she was using him almost as much as he was using her, but for different reasons. She needed Duran to help her against the UED and the rest of the factions throughout the Koprulu Sector, but while he was serving her she discovered his true motives yet did nothing about it so that she could learn more. By the end of Brood War Kerrigan had learned about whatever Duran was planning and so instead of annihilating her enemies she decided to return to Char to prepare.

    Perhaps it is also possible that Kerrigan didn't know about Duran until he up and disappeared and then she started to figure things out (and prepare).

    Graci, to all those who constructively pointe me in the right direction regarding the cinematic scenes. Indeed, they're all from the same place, probably the same cinematic, and it is probably not in fact a Zerg lair. I concur, the artwork that Blizzard has released also looks like that which they are showing.

    But, also, look at the temple/shrine that the Protoss (whom we are taking to be Zeratul) stands in front of--the figures on the temple look to be much more like Protoss, reaching skyward for some reason, than the insectoid beings that adorned the temple on Shakuras and may have been the Xel'Naga. So, there is a lot of potential here.

    I offer another twist to the whole Duran story--perhaps he's NOT Xel'Naga, but in fact an enemy of the Xel'Naga. Sure, the Xel'Naga wanted to create a being with purity of form and essence, which would seem to be a protoss/zerg hybrid, but who's to day that just because you've got two things that mixing them together gets you what you want, or that the Xel'Naga are themselves beings of pure form and essence. The Xel'Naga were attacked by both their creations, in time, and driven from the galaxy more or less. It would be interesting, perhaps, if Duran were a servant of a species at war with the Xel'Naga, who twisted the protoss and zerg creations against their makers. This would play well with a common theistic perspective, where the ultimate opponent of God is one who takes His creations and twists them into evil things. Like, the protoss-zerg hybrids?

    Bonus 300 minerals for a great post

    Hmmm, perhaps it lies in a simpler answer. There's an old saying from strategist Sima Yi from the chinese Three Kingdoms Era, that goes: "The winning strategist is always the last!"

    And indeed, if you've won, there's no more moves after yours. This also means she doesn't have to rush, and waiting till enough blood has been shed prior to her arrival to take advantage of weakened foes seems like a Kerrigan strategy to me.

    Maybe she found out about something. Maybe she went back so she weaken this something down with the Terrans and protoss. And the other got new about it too so he's bringing back his forces along with the Zerg! And then they pounce at it!

    Ugh, women take FOREVER in the bath room.
    <EDIT>
    Raynors a boozehound now. He'd screw her no matter what she looked like. Even with all the bombons and Oprah. Raynors turning into Al Bundy, SHIT!
    </EDIT>

    I'll ask once more, do we know what her long term plans with the swarm are? If we don't know that how can we speculate on what shes waiting for?
