To avoid useless crap search results? Just a guess. SJ is merely a quarantine for the demented, hence the threads don't show up on the right, etc. *unholsters goad*
Erm, they do show up in the new threads list, if that's what you mean to say. And also in the new posts section. :s Also, I think that it works just fine, if you specificaly set it to search in sj. Never tested that, though.
It seems I don't know this site as well as I thought I did, and that this thread isn't in SJ to validate my previous post.
Or I'm just spending a ridiculous amount of time here. Sounds more likely. I guess you got into Hyperion for a reason. To add to the thread: is there anyone else who uses the rss feed? I suscribed, and acces it sometimes for a quick update. That also shows space junk. Not really a problem, though. It shows a lot more then 7 threads.
I tried several searches right after posting that. You posted before I could edit my first post. :/ By the way, I also tried suscribing to the board. That gives no results as well.
I'll just hijack this thread because I don't feel like creating a new one. I just searched for the PC for SC thread by putting in "700" because that's what stuck, and it said no results... same for "$700", and "PC for under ($)700". I had to go into the sections individually and manually look for it. And yes, I know how to use the search function, and the scope wasn't limited to any board, but the whole forum. Why is the search function there if it doesn't work? This kind of invalidates all the locks on duplicate threads because there is no chance of finding the existing one. Not to mention in cases such as mine... I thought this site was to get information on everything SC2. Well how is anyone supposed to get that if they can't search?
Yeah I dont think it works very well either. One day I tried to search for house of 9, and even in the arts section only a lot of other useless threads dumped up (threads with house, or of, or 9 in it...).
For whatever reason the search engine seems to have a problem with the dollar sign and discounts 700 as being to common/short. If you put Code: 700 computer in, it comes back with the thread at the top.
Tried to skim the article again by searching for just that and it gives 500 pages of results, and the appropriate thread is nowhere in sight. Also tried adding "under" and things like that to no avail. This is ridiculous.
I don't know what's going on but I will take a closer look at the search algorithym when I get a chance. I still think this particular thread or query may be an anomaly thuogh.
"700 computer' actually brings up this thread. However, 'cheap computer' brought the thread in question straight to the the top
quoting myself in SJ well, NOT being able to search anything in SJ didnt bother me before, i guess it was only a matter of time
Bump, ffs. I tried to look for the new tech trees and unit descriptions that I saw yesterday or before that and there's an endless page of search results. I tried: tech tree, "tech tree", tech tree unit description, beta tech tree description, etc. with advanced settings like last reply date, age of thread, everything. My second attempt at searching, failed again. Nice to have it.
