Everywhere I look, I hear this. But in the number of times I played SC1 online, years ago, I have begged to differ. Money Maps/BGH don't place much emphasis on expansion or wise resource management, this much is true. But at the same time, it places much higher emphasis on twitch-gaming and completing tasks in as few seconds/clicks as possible, since everything can be done faster. And before you ask, I'm not some fresh newbie that only uses the mouse to play. I know and use most of the hotkeys and things. Yet any time I play on one of these maps, I am wiped out by a force 10x the size of mine in the first 10-15 minutes of play. I don't get wiped that easily in any normal blizzard map. My point is: money maps don't seem "n00bish", they simply toss out certain skill requirements in favor of other skills. And if money maps are so frowned upon, how come the overwhelming majority of Bnet players play them? (in US East, at least)
Duplicate topic... Maybe post in the thread I linked to below this post? That thread has been focussing on this topic for a while now. And having the same discussion in two places is just a bit strange. http://www.starcraft2forum.org/forums/showthread.php?t=41
Something will always be frowned upon by others when it makes a drastic change in the nature of the gameplay and startegy.
This topic is different enough to warrant its own thread imo, and that other thread is 14 pages long, so I doubt the OP's question would recieve much attention there. In responce to the topic creator: most of the people who play money maps are noobs, and while the skill set is different, it's definately easier to master. Also, there aren't very many moneymaps to choose from, so it's very easy to learn BGH and the 'fastest possible map' variations. I played a FFA game on BGH awhile ago, and I zealot rushed one opponant, turtled until I had built some carriers and then easily won afterwards, without using a single hotkey (I was actually leaning back in my chair the entire game). In standard games, I have to micro and macro my ass off at all times, and I have to be very aware of what's going on and what my opponant's doing. In money maps, you aren't really required to do anything; you don't have to constantly keep your opponants expansions in check, you don't have to push at any exact time and you don't have to scout (as your build can pretty much be the same every game) so you can pretty much just play at your own pace and leasure. I've attempted to play StarCraft competatively, and it's very difficult to get to a D+ level- in comparison money maps are like a walk in the park.
The reason this gets little attention is because a lot those 14 were full of discussion about just this. At least do your reading before trying to shut me up. I have been here for quite some time now, and are very much aware of what goes on around these boards. Thank you. :/ Anyway, welcome to the forum, but please, please do a bit of reading before reacting to things. -Althoug I agree with what you posted. These maps are just to simple and lack tactic. Hence the n00b label most people give this. But please just continue this in the other thread to prevent duplicate discussions.-
