I don't know. But the first battle report was uploaded like a year ago. If it hasn't been that long, it's been at least half a year. Plus blizzard is trying to balance the game. So they have been busy doing that.

They need to translate it into multiple languages.

No proof on this, but I bet they're releasing it the same day they're announcing the beta.

We will have it on your desk first thing in the morning. XD

But seriously, who is going to care about that battle report when the beta is released? That should give us more then enough info.

It's going to take a short while after the beta announcements before people get to start playing the beta (no one has received their beta DVDs or downloads yet).

Also, battle reports have commentary, which some fans like. There probably won't be any commentary in beta battle reports that aren't being done by Blizzard.

No, but there will be plenty official Gamespot, IGN and Edge videos, which are more fun to watch imo anyway. -They actually say what is good and bad about it, not just desrcibe every action and mouse movement. I can see pretty good myself, Blizzard.-

A lot of people hated that first battle report -- I've heard from several pro players that if that is how the game is being designed to be played, then it'll be a disaster.

"Official" Gamespot, IGN and Edge videos may all have far better commentary than Dustin's yelling, but I'd prefer to get commentary than none.

Most StarCraft II fans aren't going to get to play the beta, and will want more information.

Some of the Sonkie vs Yellow/BR 1 comments were valuable though, for instance, the comment that warp-in reduces the cooldown by 10 seconds (while adding 5 seconds to the production time), giving a 5 second discount per unit produced. (Yeah, that was far more jumbled than it needed to be. Sometimes I suck at writing.)

The BR1 players were far from pro.

The criticisms I've heard is fear that sc2 is more like the dreaded rock-paper-scissors than sc1.

SC2: You scout to see what you're enemy is building, and prepare a counter unit. Little skirmish. Your opponent now knows your counter and prepares their own counter.

And so begins a predictable relay of counters that defines the progress of the game.

That is the fear -- if the optimal strategy turns out to be that mode of gameplay.

Ultimately it depends how the units match up. How hard or soft unit counters are. RTS units should fill niches, and not fulfill the role of being hard counters to selected enemy units. The trouble is, it's so easy for the balancing process in game design to produce hard counters. :)

BR1 played exactly like that. I just hope that wasn't a sign of how balancing has happened.

Ouch for BR( But what do you mean by "rather having commentary then none"? You probably get commentary with every video worth watching. :s

I think the countdown is for the next report with something very special like a 30 minute long 3 player FFA between the races or something. And possibly the start of the beta, but I'd rather if that was further away.

@Kuvasz. It has been said by Dustin or Karune that the next BR will be a TvZ, and I doubt he would have said that without being sure.

I expect we'll get three battle reports in total. one for each non-mirror. :)

second with the beta. third one just before it goes on sale.

I think august would be a realistic sale date, so all the kids have it for their summer holidays. That's my prediction :)

Very few videos will have commentary.

Beta players will be able to export their replays and make videos out of them. I suspect many will end up on youtube. That doesn't mean they have the tools for commentary.

I can use myself as an example. Suppose I got a beta invite. My computer doesn't have a microphone or any of the technology to make such a vocal recording. Even if I had that tech, I'd be too embarrassed to speak (I have a terrible voice, etc). Even if I was willing to make a vocal recording, I'm not pro enough to make a commentary that people will respect. I'd be better off calmly recording info and making it available in a blog post or something. The latter may be rather difficult, since beta will probably just be human vs human and not human vs easy computer.

But then you have to overcome all the other stuff he listed, like not feeling comfortable with your voice, and not feeling comfortable with your SC2 knowledge.

Just use a voice deform program thingy, like they use in shows where they catch older men who like little boys a bit to much. :p

But seriously, have you ever seen a video from that spoony guy? If he can do it, you can as well. -And Blizzard people are also pretty strange sometimes when commenting, but hey, they get paid for it.-
