What's so bad about Money Maps? I've seen so many people saying "Omgzorz you play money maps, you is be a noob!" So, pretty much, almost everyone I've seen on the Battle.net forums hates money maps! Why? Yeah, there is a lot of minerals and gas, but I guess this teaches you to use resources. And it's not unfair because everyone playing has the same amount of resources next to their base!

    Why hate money maps?

You'd be suprised how your play style is altered when you generally play normal maps. I find them a lot more fun to play now, as I used to play money maps a lot and had the same view as you. Basically I don't care about money map existance as it doesn't effect me in any way.

I always thought that having limited resources teaches you how to use them properly ::)

Are you serious? That's just a lame statement in my opinion. :p
I don't really hate those maps, they just take most of the strategy out of the game. That just isn't supposed to happen in one of the most balanced and competitive games ever.

It's fun to play one once in a while to have some fun battles, but you can basically always use the same tactics to win. I mean, does anyone use tier 1 units when playing money maps? I don't think so. It's always like this: the player starts resourcing, builds a massive amount of Bunkers / Sunken Colonies / Photon Cannons, starts teching to the highest damage unit and attacks, while hoping their defensive structures will last longer then the ones of the opponent.

That's just not fun anymore after playing a few games. I have learned that it even makes the game unfair to play. The Protoss usually have to survive for a while before getting really strong, but on money maps they get the upper hand right away due to the almost endless money for upgrades. You are basically lost when playing Zerg if an opponent uses the Protoss. Since I'm a Zerg player, I think this sucks.

Of course there are several tactics you could use to win anyway, but most of the time you don't stand a chance, especially in maps with bottlenecks, since the Protoss are much more powerful when they use airborne units, like the Carrier. However, the Terrans are the best example. Just mass Siege Tanks and Valkyries right away to win. Nothing is going to stop you most of the time.

You need skill to defend against the rush...

And forsaken, I play Zerg too, and since you also have a lot of resources, build some sunken colonies and Zerglings. They defend well against Zlots... How can you not fend them off? I've fended them off many times. Actually, I get hydras before they even have enough zealots to cause damage.

Money Map games are more for people that like button mashing games.

Because you just have to build a bunch of unit-producing buildings, then all the damned units.

With so many units, you need to micro. You get to learn how to micro.

You don't need to micro with fewer units? :p

Moneymaps focus on macro while regular maps have both macro and micro.

Make the best available unit, press Attack, click in their base, and wait.

I meant that since there are so many units according to Major Willy, you will need to micro. And also, nobody except for a noob would mindlessly build only one kind of late game unit. You wouldn't spam Battlecruisers would you? A few ghosts and some goliaths can take them out. Regular people would be able to actually use more units because of the amount of resources they receive.

No, I was simply making a point that no one would actually just mass only one kind of strong unit. It would mean that they really suck. And money maps, they would probably allow players to diversify their army since they have the resources to buy units they usually wouldn't be able to buy in a normal game.

LOL, didn't think of that. My friend at school wanted Blizzard to give the Terrans a Hijacker unit to steal enemy vehicles.

Reapers can't hijack vehicles... It would be cool if they could though!
