    hello everyone,

i read the sticky troubleshooting faq, ran the dxdiag and also ran the system requirements lab website. i passed all the tests for the recommended settings...but im suffering from choppy gameplay. the game plays in screen shots the first 30 seconds or so when the mission starts. it plays somewhat smooth and then it gets choppy again. if theres a lot of action, its a total slide show at 1fps.

i was running the game at 1280x1024 on ultra as the default recommended specs. i then downgraded to high. still somewhat choppy. i then lowered the resolution to 1280x900, with high settings. still somewhat choppy.

any ideas what else i can do?

Please run dxdiag and save a txt file from it ( I should really add that detail into the FAQ maybe?... considering your the first person to actually READ the damn thing in over a month... XD). If the txt file is to big to upload here, zip/rar it first.

Try installing HWMonitor and then posting a screen shot (use alt+printscreen to take a small screenshot that only shows the current window) of your idle temps. I am giving your dxdiag a once threw to see what I can find.

First, try installing your sound driver for your Realtek built-in sound card... Currently your machine is using a generic driver.

Here is a link to your newest Realtek NIC card drivers for your network adapter.

Also run the Intel Driver Update Utility to see what Intel Drivers on your machine may require updating.

Most of these drivers may not help, EXCEPT for the audio driver. Having the proper audio driver may offload CPU cycles that the generic driver is using.

What in game settings are you using? On my buddies machine, I have it set to everything on ultra, except textures are on high (This is with a 9800GTX+ 512MB). I then created a custom game profile for StarCraft2.exe in the nVidia control pannel, and turned on "triple buffering." (Triple Buffering seemed to fix the random "pausing" or "hitching" as it is called) I was even able to enable 4xFSAA and 4xAnso. I also set the game to have "single display performance" and high quality textures, but you seem to have two monitors. His gameplay doesn't slow down noticeably with two displays or cloned displays.

With these settings, he gets smooth 30FPS and even with a crap load of units on the screen, he gets 15FPS. He does have a quad core though, that may make a difference. Some people might find that unacceptable... I find hitching to be MORE unacceptable.

You young peoples need to learn the value of triple buffering! lol

Here is a question: is it just Starcraft 2 that runs slow or do other programs on your pc run slow?

The reason I ask is because maybe you have registry errors.

I've run starcraft on low to moderate settings with a 256 video card before, so I see no reason you couldn't do it with a 512.

If other programs are running slow, perhaps consider reformatting or cleaning the registry.

Registry cleaning is a voodoo science now. Very rarely will it cause issues that will slow down a machine. This isn't the days of Windows 98. If you need to do anything major tot he registery though, its just as Amberlamps's said: Reinstall the machine.

Are you running a virus scanner?

ok, so i installed everything and updated my drivers, audio, network, etc.

i didnt really notice any significant bump in terms of smooth gameplay. but heres the interesting thing. after you mentioned about my secondary display, i completely forgot about it! my secondary display which is my 32" hdtv, which i never use unless i youtube hd clips or watch movies.

after checking out the display properties, i set up the secondary display to extend my current desktop. i disabled it since i completely forgot about it and now, sc2 runs buttery smooth on 1280x1024 on high with a lot of action. on ultra, it runs just as smooth, but theres a minor hiccup here and there when theres too many things going on, but needless to say, i am very happy with the overall results!

i havent fiddled with the "triple buffering" in the nvidia control panels though.

thank you very much for the help! this will be a glorious weekend!

My buddies' machine plays StarCraft II just with 2GBs of RAM (although he just got the other 2GB's of RAM back from RMA).

Let's see what's running on your machine. Download Process Explorer, and save a text file dump of what is running on your machine.
