I spent all day building a machine for a buddy of mine. It was built on a $700 USD budget, and it’s loaded. This machine focused on “budget” with the highest level components, no expandability to CrossFireX/SLI (one card wonder only, no massive over excessive power supply). With that in mind the case is a cheapo $20 case that simply gets the job done. If you want the biggest bang for your buck, this machine will surprise you. I am not going to post the links to parts until after I have received some input on how to benchmark it, but here is a preview of the specs:

This machine is capable of 1W sleep (when enabled in the BIOS, off by default). Wish I had a wattage thing to test this.

I will be providing the BIOS screenshots to prevent the dreaded “AHCI” crap that people have run too, I’ve even debated making a Windows 7 disc to include slipstreamed drivers… but I couldn’t even manage it for the initial install (so I’m not bothering).

What I want to really test this machine are:
    • A list of a few general benchmarks people want to see.
    • A gnarly StarCraft 2 replay (or two) to post benchmarks of via FRAPS.
    • Maybe one or two different games that are easy to get ahold of and bench (demo’s would be good).
    • 3DMark is a given.
I want to post benchs along with parts links. I don’t want a huge focus on FPS since I doubt a lot of people will care here. My initial test of the system involved me playing StarCraft II (4X Adapter MSAA, 16X ANSO) while simultaneously installing World of Warcraft: WotLK from a DVD. Machine didn’t even flinch while doing this. Initial Windows Experience put the machine as an overall 5.9 (WD Hard drive holding things back), with the rest of the parts between 7.5-7.9.

The only real oversight in this initial machine build was not finding a proper case fan for exhaust air. It's a good thing I didn't look for one using the onboard motherboard connector, since that connector is on the OTHER side of the motherboard away from the rear of the case.

Anyway, I'm going to sleep. I spent all day building this machine and installing crap. I'll try to catch up on tech support tomorrow morning (-5 GMT).

You need to benchmark it in 1920x1080 for sure, other then that not much else

Replays.. I really want some replays... something we can make our "go to" benchmark.

Tom's Hardware posted the benchmark method/map they used for their StarCraft II Revisited article. I think that would be a decent test.
