Sublime and The Offspring easily, their music inspires the things I do everyday. What about you guys?
Life-wise, it's been the Beatles....Just chill out, what happens, happens. Musically, too many to count, but some are Wolfmother, MUSE, Rush, and The Automatic.
I will start with Cynic, a death metal avantgarde band who opened me to various genres. Without Cynic.. I wouldn't be open minded like I am today. Even if Cynic's stuff is not my "everyday album" stuff anymore, I still owe them respect and they will always be the first band I will ever state when it's about the stuff that left a big impression on me. Herbie Hancock introduced me to jazz, which I'm now a big fan. John Zorn: Opening me to avantgarde, this guy is crazy... the most productive musician ever, hands down. a genius. Then I would add Four Tet and Massive Attack, they basicly sent me to the world of electronic music... because of trip-hop and whatever four tet is, I discovered the genres I listen to the most today. Portishead: This has to be the best band on earth... Bristol FTW Autechre: This duo made me realise how far experimental electronic music can go. Aphex Twin: he's pretty much the reference in idm, listening to his stuff shows what's possible and what's not... ("what's not" being what he DIDN'T do) Orbital: for their amazing transitions and panning (OMG PANNING, listening to orbital with good headphones is like having a full class on panning) Squarepusher: This guy is the only reason why Drum and Bass should exist... experimental dnb ftw. Goldie: Simply my dnb standard, If it's not better than Goldie, it shouldn't exist. Venetian Snares: Ok, this guy is a mix of Ludwig Van Beethoveen's virtuosity, Salvador Dali's megalomania, Jackson Pollock's spasticness, Le Corbusier's sence of fachion and design blended together with Aphex Twin's skills to make something new with anything and still alive and active in 2007, his next album (coming in exactly 1 month) will totally redefine the meaning of breakcore.. just like it wasn't enough to redefine it with every album he ever made. Saying this guy is a genius isn't enough. Sergei Prokofiev: Before hearing prokofiev, I never really enjoyed classical music because I always thought it sounded too cheesy and outdated.. Prokofiev is a genius. Bogdan Raczynski: By far the one with the most creativity in those I stated.. his life is so full of fucked up stuff and all that is reflected with his music... This guy is a genius, he takes cheesy sounds, cheesy melody and makes great stuff with that.. HOW THE HELL CAN HE MAKE SOMETHING GOOD WITH THAT SHIT? He's amazing. Overall, I can say that those who left the biggest impression are: Cynic, Portishead, Autechre, Venetian Snares, Bogdan Raczynski.
