Yarrr... there be NOTHING BUT SPOILERS from here.

overall, it was a pretty good movie, but they changed a LOT. the main points are still there:
    - snape kills dumbledore
    - harry gets with ginny
    - ron + hermione after being with lavender for a while
    - harry gets the memory from slughorn.
    - harry pretends to drop some felix felicis into ron's juice
    - malfoy's fixing the cabinet, DE's invade hogwarts
    - draco disarms dumbledore

so, the general gist of the story is still there. however, there are some MAJOR changes:
    - during the christmas visit, DE's attack and burn down The Burrow. i don't get why it happened, and it wasn't mentioned again for the rest of the movie.
    - a huge chunk of voldemort's past is skipped over. you only visit 2 memories, instead of a dozen or so.
    - no mention of the harry's inheritance from sirius, house-elves, or the house in general
    - no mention of rufus scrimgeour
    - while the relationship things happen, the way they happen is tossed up. this isn't really a bad thing, i actually like the way it played out in the movie better than the book.

    and minor little details,
like the luck potion. it's supposed to be gold, damnit, not clear! harry was supposed to leave some for his friends, when the DE's attacked. harry isn't under his cloak, nor is he frozen (by dumbledore) when dumbledore dies. at the beginning of the movie, harry is hitting on a slightly older, hot waitress in a diner when he meets dumbledore, no mention of the dursleys, nor of the protective spell. he's also found in the train by luna, not tonks. also, no mention of any wedding plans, but that wasn't a big part of the book anyways.

haha. i remember the "drive-by spoiling" when the book came out.

but as far as the movie goes, i guess it just gets the point across. even at nearly 2.5 hours, it felt rushed. it's pretty hard to squeeze a 600+ page book into a single movie. i can see why they're making the last one two movies.

oh, and thanks for the spoiler tags. the last few forums i've been on don't have them. not used to using them.

the inexplicable change i found was
when the death eaters burned the weasleys' house down. first off, it wasn't in the book. but more importantly, i don't see it having any purpose. nobody mentioned it again for the rest of the movie. it just happened, and that's it. now how is the next movie going to start? In the book, it begins with a wedding... at the weasleys' house. and that's where harry, ron, and hermione receive their gifts from dumbledore's will. now what's going to happen?

Im gonna watch it with some family today, probably going to be great fun. Ive read the novels at least a few times, and you know what I think is worst about them? Harry Potter lol!

Ok, the movie was just great! Finally a movie that lives up to the books in general. Some minor details were missing, but a lot more minor plots than in the other films. I watched HP5 in London, and I think I will travel to London to watch HP7 2nd.
