Is it just me or does the starcraft storyline seem to be more in depth then WC. That and also is it just me or are the Voice actors for sc better then the wc2 and wc3 voice actors? I just did both and it seems like theres a lot more emotion put into the sc voice acting and the cut scenes are more alive.

    Are you trolling or serious?

Check the wiki for both series and say again that Warcraft has less depth...

Im serious. I recently i decided to play the warcraft 3 campaign and after I decided to play the starcraft campaign again to compare and warcraft 3 is so boring in comparison. I mean the storyline seems like it struggles to continue through out the campaign, and some of it feels like a carbon copy of the starcraft storyline.I mean the deal with arthas is the exact same thing that happened with sarah kerrigan. Also, I'm comparing the games here not what people wrote in fan fictions.

It's not fan fiction. Most of it is canon from books. There is about just as much fan fiction for both, but Warcraft has MUCH more canon lore. Most of it from WoW, though.

Still, I think you shouldn't be comparing Arthas to Kerrigan. Kerrigan was simply betrayed, and ended up being assimilated into the swarm. She was unique. Arthas later was one of many Death Knights. It's just that he was the one to find Frostmourne that made him go evil. Further, Arthas was no leader and was being used by the Lich King all the way to the end. Kerrigan eventually took over everything.

    So they are completely different.

Further, Kerrigan was just part of the Swarm she was leading, a lone faction. Arthas was part of the Scourge, at least in the beginning. The Scourge was leaded by the Lich King, who took orders from Tychondrius and the other agents of the Burning Legion. Those in turn took orders from Archimonde and Kil'Jaden, who took orders from Sar'Geras, who wants to undo all creation by destroying all worlds and piss off other Titans etc...

So Warcraft goes a little deeper then Starcraft. And Warcraft has some sort of mythology. Just that part is far bigger then Starcraft's main story.

So blah, Starcraft isn't more complex. But I have to say that it's a very good story, and it didn't take Starcraft 3 games and a huge MMO to unfold it. (but again, it goes far less deep)

True but like how kerrigan was chosen by the overmind to become the first infested ghost. Arthas was chosen by the scourge to become the first death knight. Also like kerrigan, arthas has someone who still has feels for him and wants to see him returned to what he once was.

As for the depth of the story, again I was talking about the games them selfs. I'm comparing the voice acting in the games, in the game cut scenes, and the little movies they have for in between missions and after each campaign. I mean when comparing the terran compaign to the alliance... I mean it just seems so crummy in comparison. The voice acting isn't anywhere near the quality it was in starcraft, and the dialogue feels to generic. Along with that you find it hard to get any real connection with the characters in the games. I don't know maybe it has something to do with you not being a character your self in the campaign... But what ever it is it makes the campaigns in warcraft lacking.

As for the depth of the games them selves you can again look at the in game cut scenes and the lack of info they present you inside the storyline. So yes while the warcraft genre might have more depth and lore from all the books. I still think the games them self lack any real depth alone.

The expansion is ****ing epic. Look up the opening cinematic on youtube or whatever. The one where Illidan calls the Naga. Probably the best Blizzard cgi scene I've seen so far.

And if we're only talking about the ingame story, then Warcraft still has much, much more depth. Let me sum it up.

    Starcraft factions:
    • Terran Dominion
    • Mengsk's Empire thingy
    • UED
    • Overmind Zerg
    • Renegade Cerebrates Zerg
    • Kerrigan Cerebrate Zerg
    • High Templar Protoss
    • Conclave Protoss
    • Dark Templar Protoss
    • Duran / Xel'Naga(?)

So that's about 4 major groups with a few sub factions.

Warcraft (not even going to name them all):
    • Alliance main
    • Alliance magic guys
    • Alliance colony stuff
    • Orcs with Thrall
    • Orcs with Hellscream and such
    • Fell Orcs
    • High Elves
    • Dark Elves
    • Blood Elves
    • Those Druids and such who sleep all the time
    • Undead Scourge (led by Burning Legion)
    • Undead renegades after the Lich King unfolds his plans
    • Undead Forsaken faction
    • Pandarens
    • Nerubians
    • Forgotten Ones
    • Tauren Tribes
    • Harpy Tribes
    • Dragon Tribes
    • Jail Watcher guys
    • Naga
    • All those forest random critters
    • Dwarves
    • Burning Legion
    • That Pit Lord in Outland has his own faction, can't remember the name
    • Goblins

And those are just some of the major factions you get to deal with. It's ridiculous to say that Starcraft goes deeper in the campaign. It just doesn't. :/

    What's the naga?

Also you forgot the Kel-Morian combine and the Umojan Protectorate.

those two werent in the game, just there in the manual.

The naga are mutated highborne, nearly dying during the sundering, the great queen of all night elves, azshara, made a pact with an old god, turning them into monstrous demi-serpentine creatures.

Yeah, but you don't really interact with them. It's just a fight. :/

And yes, the naga are in the opening cgi of Frozen Throne. Those two are actually their strongest unit type. They can swim (like most naga units) and even dive to turn invisible. Those huge maces do quite decent damage, but their best attack is definitely the huge wave they can summon. Also: the Naga are actually a full race with buildings, workers and upgrades, but you can't play as them in multiplayer. Well.. You can use the editor and replace another race with them if you want in a custom map.

I think they aren't payable because of balance as well. They are way op in any map with water in it. But meh, Night Elves are op as well. Especially since FT. Feary Dragons + Mountain Giants + Archers + your fave hero is all you need against most players. But it's not like Blizzard is ever going to admit that War3 is hella imbalanced. At least whenever normal people play it.

You also forgot to mention the several colonies that have their own armies. Then there is also the terran confederacy, and theres the dozens of rebel factions. O yeah lets not forget about the overmind.. Also you technically could consider Duran with two factions considering he commands both zerg and terrans. Then theres raynors outfit, and of course the dozens of different broods being operated by several independent cerebrates. Oh, and hey since you wonna split all those races up into different factions of warcraft like that. You also have zeratuls dark templars, tassadars little faction that were considered traitors, the dark templar who were on shakuras, and you have the khala. You also could consider the zerg that the UED and confederacy controled their own factions as well. I could go on but you see my point.

    Yea you being an ***.

I thought those were spears in their hands, it would make more sense considering they were in the water. You get to use them in the story?

How many units are added for each race with FT?

Also, the number of factions doesn't mean its more in depth. I mean when you compare the fact that in WC3 and its expansion your never involved in the story your just watching others be a part of it you don't really feel any connection with the characters. Along with that they provide very little background on main characters them selfs, and on top of that the way they have the story unfold its like... I don't know like clockwork.. That and a lot of the story seems like its being forced to work. I mean lets compare these two stories. In warcraft 3 you the generic old wise and still strong magic guy uther, and then you have the knight in shinny armor who gets angry at some orcs for killing a few town folk, then you have jaina who's relation ship with arthas is never really defined they just kinda expect you to know whats going on, and then you finally have medivh flying around telling everyone the world is going to end, and then of course you have argueable a 2nd arthas character who turns into the first death knight of many. Who everyone comes to hate, and Jaina has hope to return back to normal, and again they never really defined what kind of relation ship these two have so your not sure why shes doing this.

Where in starcraft everything just fits in the story perfectly. You have your generic hero raynor who falls for the girl with a ****ed up past, and then you got the evil dictator who at first comes off as your savior and then turns into your worst enemy, and THEN you have the girl who the generic hero falls in love with turn into a monster, and for a while the main character still has feelings for her. Then of course he comes to hate her because she's turned into the most evil and demonic thing ever to be created, and wants to consume the universe. Then of course you got the protoss faction, but for the sake of keeping it short i'll just compare the human heros.

Also isn't it kinda wierd how both Kerrigan and Arthas kill a main character a lot of people tend to like in the story?

Dozens of rebel factions are just lore, as are most of the other things you mentioned. In Warcraft you actually speak to and interact with all those different races. And even without dividing some races into factions Warcraft still has way more different ones. Also, I hardly could call the different broods separate factions. You don't even see their names until you get to the score screen. I simply refuse to even consider map filling cannon fodder as a faction.

Also, Duran is his own faction and only has himself. He merely infiltrated those other factions and was merely a lieutenant in that rebel faction. You can hardly call that a faction he "owns". And Zeratul doesn't have his own faction, nor does Tassadar. Zeratul pretty much represented the whole Dark Temples faction all the time, and Tassadar was the High Templar faction after it split off from the main Protoss faction lead by the Conclave. So no, those which you named aren't really separate ones.

The ones I named from Warcraft even had their own cities, islands or even continents. (although Undermine isn't actually mentioned) Further, all factions I named had their own goals and unique personalities. The Zerg factions were all the same mindless monsters, the rebels were all the same rebels and the Protoss are all philosophizing pricks anyway. Just saying.

I really like both Storylines, but Warcraft simply goes deeper. And as for the voice actors: what do you mean with that the Warcraft ones weren't good? I found them pretty much equal for both games, although the sound quality from Starcraft isn't as good for obvious reasons. But I shouldn't mention that, as it has little to do with how good the actors are. Lol.

By the way, it's Warcraft III. If some stuff doesn't make sense to you, play the other parts as well before panting about you not getting stuff. And further, Medihv is the one who brought the Orcs to Azeroth. So he's not just some random character.

And don't even get me started about being involved in the Starcraft story. All you ever got to do was watch others talking and then suddenly being forced to switch factions without anybody ever asking you a thing. At least there were plenty of optional quests you could do in Warcraft III.

    @Darkone
There are actually 4 standard new hero units. The Troll Shadow Hunter for the Orcs, the Nerubian thing for Undead, Blood Elf mage guy for the Humans and the Warden (blinking chick with a huge blade) for the Night Elves. The Naga get the Sea Witch or whatever. There's also the Tavern hero stuff. A Pit Lord, a fire elemental-ish thing, the Beastmaster (basic tank unit with a summon) and a Pandaren Brewmaster who's just ultra cool with his 4 Elemental forms.

And each race gets 2 new units. Pretty sweet ones, actually.

Your wrong about zeratul, while currently he does represent the entire dark templar faction rashzagal(or how ever you spell her name) was the one representing the faction of dark templars on shakuras until her demise. Also tassadar if you remember had his own army and in fact fought against the conclave until the last mission in the protoss campaign so yes he did have his own faction. Also if you wonna play that game Hellscream hardly had his own faction as well. Along with the magic guys for the alliance and the alliance colonies, since they all still answered to the alliance alone. Plus aren't the high elves tecnically the blood elfs? I mean didn't all the high elves turn into blood elves after the corruption of that fountain?

As for the voice acting... The thing that annoyed me the most was thralls and hellscreams voice acting. It sounds like they hired kids straight out of a high school play to write, direct, and voice act for the scenes. They just don't play their roles well. Also, just listen to the Lich kings voice i mean all it is is some guy in a really rough sounding voice.. It sounds less scary and more like the guy has a bad cold. Then there's jaina who really doesn't carry any emotion in her voice at all.

Also, while you didn't join IN on the conversations there were still several points in the campaigns where they talked to you and not just to each other. By doing this it felt like you were more involved with the storyline, and kind of gave you the reason why you were ordering the armies around and how you fit into everything. In warcraft 3 they just kind of expect you to get why your doing it. I mean the mission objectives aren't really directed as much toward you its more like. Heres what the hero wants to do now order him around so he can do it successfully.

Hellscreams voice is just annoying, I think your hatred of it has tainted how you see it. Just like Aldaris, I think they hired someone with an annoying voice, just to piss you off when he tells you to make more pylons. STFU ALDARIS, OR I WILL ****ING BEHEAD YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyways, I thought you were the hero's conscienceness, cause they call you by the title of that hero often, more so the orcs. And you just become the druid guy in that one mission for a little bit.

The Nerubian things, are those those spiders with necro powers? I hate them, they are so annoying.

ORLY? He's frozen solid. What else is new?

As for the voice actors: I guess you're right. Still, it wasn't all that bad. The units themselves were really good. Better then the ones in Starcraft, in my opinion. Much more lively. Starcraft's Terran units were for 50% just references to lame movies and overused one-liners. That doesn't make the voice acting bad, but I don't want that many references to real life stuff in a game that's supposed to play several thousand years into the future.

And the Arcane factions didn't take orders from nobody. They just sat their behind their magically sealed city while the rest of the world was screaming for help. And half the Wizards in Warcraft III were rogues who attacked everybody, regardless of they were Alliance or something else.

Now for the Tassadar army thing: I already explained that. First all Protoss were one. Then you got the part where the Void using Templar were chased away by the Conclave and went into Exile, becoming Dark Templar who were basically nomads. Then they settled on Shakuras to study the Xel'Naga temple there and chose Raszagal as their Matriarch, since they didn't want their own Conclave thing.

Zeratul always took orders from Raszagal, but you mostly saw Zeratul when fighting and between missions. Hence the representing thing. He didn't really have his own faction at any point, he merely replaced Raszagal after killing her. The Warcraft Human sub-factions were all independent.

Tassadar was part of the (High) Templar CASTE. It didn't became its own faction until after they split from the Conclave. Tassadar had no own faction nor his own army. He led the Templar that refused to stay with the Conclave. So there are still only 3 Protoss factions, and just 2 at the end of Brood War.
