    what do you think?

yah, what am i thinking? thats why its called starcraft ::)

    anyway

i hope they will make water units for starcraft, and so that water environments will be accessible. ofcourse it will depend on maps, well most of the map dont have water on it. so its optional.

maybe putting crystals or minerals underwater and units of the 3 races can gather from it. build a water-command center etc then have underwater scv's mine it. additional resources. taran. 8)

ow yeah, the water units can also attack on grounds and air, so that they will have a major role too. now i like to see water units of the 3 races, a uber submarrine and naval fleet for the terran, zerg octupus, a giant zerg crabs underwater that fires spikes above that can hit water unit afloat and air units too. for the protoss water units? i got many ideas. ;D

i dont know how this will affect the gameplay? i think it adds dynamic and coolness to the game or maybe it will make starcraft sucks and ruin its reputation

hhmmm. i hope the sc2 campaign will show some of these ideas. maybe in cinematics or in game cut scenes.

are there still oceans in sc universe? ::)

im just wondering whats the water units, water structures etc in starcraft universe seems to be like. ???

Why would advanced races need water units when they have spaceships? It doesn't make sense.

Re: water environments and water units in starcraft 2

ofcourse its important. some planets are compose of many waters and ocean i think. its called water supremacy. lol. in starcraft universe there are ofcourse underwater creatures or aliens (how can you yamato them ) , and its important that either 3 races controls this water territory. but ofcourse in war, water units and stations are not big part of it. so you think terran has no facilities or whatsoever in water in starcraft universe? now that doesnt make sense at all! ofcourse they have. its not just important in campaign and in the game etc so thats why maybe their not showing them. terrans are from the future ofcourse they have future versions of naval fleet and water transport and water structures etc in some planets or maybe the earth. LOL. do you think that a futuristic stealth submarine with multiple nuclear capabilities is not advance? thats stronger than a wraith and a ghost ofcourse. ow yeah, zerg may have minor larva spawning underwater. and protoss may be doing some research underwater. lol. imagination please. ::) hey water units can only be a patrol boat or something..

Re: water environments and water units in starcraft 2

the sizes of waterways on the planets itself where the story is taken place, as well as the waterways of SC2 maps, are going to be at a very small proportion. It's not viable for the races to develop water structures and units.

blizzard has said that there are no plans for naval units or combat at this time...

though it would be cool to have a different type of game all together. Like different buildings and units in a "water battle". You could build your buildings in shallow water and haverst minerals that just peek out. It would be a fun atmosphere =].

    not gonna happen tho.

sure. there are no water units and never there will be in the game. but i believe they have water units and structures in stracraft universe. its just basic you know. anyway i can't stop imagining about it. it would be cool if they have with the good graphics they have now.

Re: water environments and water units in starcraft 2

It would be nice to have them, and it would add new elements to the game. Especially considering that the first game I've ever played from Blizzard is Warcraft 2.
The thing is even in WC2 the water units don't get used much so yeah.

In SC2 I think they might implement a new altitude level besides ground and air units. Well the Zerg already have burrow and the Nydus Worm move underground. So maybe an underground level? Or maybe split air units into low air and high air?

    Boats and ships!

Meh, There is no Boats or ships units. :(

But I want a ship for each race.

For Terran we could have the Destoryer, Battleships, LightCruiser, Submarines.

Destoryer are the one that can only attack ships on water and can attack "Hidden Enemies" underwater.

Battleships can attack only air and Land units. Also very powerful.

Light cruiser are like vulture but attack units on water.

Submarines are the "Hidden enemies" and can send torpedos and blow your ships up. Science vessel / OL / Obs cannot detect Submarines or under water units.

    For Zerg

    Brood Ships-See Battle ships

    Spinale-Lurker+Submarine

    Man Eater-Those eels+Man eating shark+Lightcruiser?

    Glaive=Destoryer

    For Protoss

    Defender=Battleship

    UW Scouts-Submarine

    Rammer-Melee type Lightcruiser

    Central Ship-Destoryer.

Meh, Since Starcraft don't have Water terrain most of the time, It won't work. :(

But fun if we have it.

I think there's already a topic about this. Try searching next time. If you did, never mind.

...Why did you bother typing all that if you don't even think it would work?

I belive Blizzard has already stated that they won't implement naval combat. Which is good, because it means that SC2 gets release earlier.

Re: water environments and water units in starcraft 2

Hmm I agree with zeratul11 in that the races probably do utilise aquatic environments in some way (in the hypothetical non-playable sense) but every RTS I've played with naval units (C&C, Warcraft, Total Annihilation) all seem like a hasty add on at the end. The only time it's ever useful is for transport, and if it's in the future with advanced enough races to have air transport I don't see how naval units can be a useful strategy. But I guess if they did have them, I'd still use them...like in melee games vs. the computer, when you're so compelled to just build at least one of everything, just for the sake of diversity? Wishful thinking though :-\.

    Re: Boats and ships!

Instead of maritime units, there should be a sub-air unit, or just simply the hovering units.
Hovering units should be able to go across water and lava and all those terrains not nagivable by ground units. In that case they'll need to slow down the vultures cos they'll just be too fast to go across bodies of water.

Mobility-wise the hovering units would move like air units. Attack-wise the hovering units would attack and be attacked like ground units.

Re: water environments and water units in starcraft 2

maybe water units that can can fire long range to ground units. useful strategy too, if your planning to do a siege without using siege tanks etc. so that they would not be that useless. well it depends on the map. but i like the idea of underwater in starcraft, you can see underwater the minerals aquatic life etc. but ofcourse in deep water you can't see anything. but if you got submarine with lights maybe you can see in deep water. heheh.

maybe in the expansion of starcraft 2 , water units and structures will be added. ;D

Water units do seem like an interesting addition. Water terrain is a bit scarce, but not hard to add to a map. Would be neat in a later expansion like zeratul mentioned.

why, when you can have battle curiseres that can fly, would have a seafaring boat?

    Re: Boats and ships!

    hahaha.

wasting time patroling wraith in water areas for long time is just an example why ships and subs etc are a must in water even in starcraft. lol. so you think starcraft has no futuristic lighthouse or something related to water? they have it 8)
