Will Starcraft 2 look like Warcraft 3 how the buildings and units are huge or will it look like good old starcraft? Will it be adjustable? Your opionions? ive noticed Angle of view is adjustable anyone else notice that?
Yea i figured its adjustable beacuse if you look at all the differnt screen shots with the minimap you notice the differnt shape by the angle you are looking at the buildings like a trapazoid facing a direction of view \__/
You can also see it in action if you watch the very first video of the Protoss right after the Zerglings unburrowed IIRC. And also when the Colossi are introduced. I know the camera is rotated but I seem to remember it being tilted as well.
do you think thats only for the video demo to show the units or do you think the gameplay camera will be stationary.? i cant immagine that it would be.
I really don't know since they always readjusted the camera to the same position when they resumed the game which would imply that it cannot be left rotated for play. I'm not even sure if it would be nice to have or not. Perhaps it would make a few situations easier when precise clicking is crucial but would render little helps such as using doodads for cover useless. Nah I don't think we'll have it.
StarCraft 2 will have a comfortably wide zoom range. The closest I've seen will make things look bigger than WC3, the default zoom is at the same distance the "camera" in SC1 was at, and as far as I know, it is as far out as you can pull. In-game you can't control the camera like it was in the cutscenes. You can move, zoom, and rotate, but you can't "fly" with it.
So you can keep the camera rotated differently from the default while playing? Think of all the buildings looking a whole lot different... and some of the units have static parts (like Colossus and Immortal legs). Are you sure about that? (You might have been at Blizzcon and experienced it, I can't remember who was there :-[)
Could you explain that in counter strike camera mode ex zoom would be like move forward and back rotate would be left an right but what would " fly " with it mean?
No. Zoom would be increase/decrease the FOV. Fly would be to move with the camera as if you were playing... minus gravity.
As far as I could tell you could move with the camera rotated. I only ever tried to move it a few times, and I don't remember it ever rolling back to the default after rotation. I don't think anything involving the unit models would inhibit rotation- plenty of games have full rotation without any problems. Like everything else, this stuff is still probably up in the air, but I don't see why Blizzard would prevent rotated camera movement. It wouldn't give anyone any specific advantage (if done correctly) and should be easy enough to deal with, especially with the ability to re-center the camera to default if needed.
I think zooming would affect gameplay actually. Not in an imba way, but to a new SC2 owner who just bought the game would probably zoom in on battle scenes frantically in sheer amazement. Thus he would forget about his main base and would eventually get pwned by reapers without noticing. Zooming in + ADD would not go well in a SC2 match, henceforth, I would suck soooo much
... I think we'll all be staring at the screen in amazement for a few hours before even playing. Then we'll start to kick some ass!
