There is a tall, thin building that can be seen as the Reapers move past the Protoss base at about 5:15 in the gameplay video. There is more than one, and it has a small footprint, so my speculation is that it is some sort of defense building. Take a look and tell me what you think.

You're right. I have no idea what that its. Maybe an anti-air turret?

If it is, then that would imply that the Photon Cannon is losing it's anti-air attack, unless Blizzard feels that the Photon Cannon as it is can't handle heavy air attacks and this new building is meant as a supplement. Maybe the Photon Cannon is losing detection, and this takes over as a combined air-support/detection structure analogous to the Spore Colony and Missile Turret. It would seem like an odd move though, because it would weaken the distinctiveness of each race's defenses.

Maybe it's some weird kind of shield battery that works only for buildings. Or maybe it has the Arbiter's Recall spell, and nothing more... I'm just throwing guesses at you.

maybe it's a new special type of pylon that can generate a much bigger psi area?
nice observations there 10-neon, it's about time the protoss get a more powerful static defense

It can't be a special Pylon because you can see that it generates no power field at all. I have absolutely no idea what it's for. Damn, Blizz must be realy pulling our leg with this one. :-\

maybe it's a shield generator that gives out an energy shield over a large area that resist enemy's attacks? It'd be great to have on of those in the middle of a bunch of photon cannons.

Like a sort of Shield Generator? That would be weird, but I'd be curious to see it.

    Let's see.

    It's... TALL.
It has three heads pointing outwards.
It appears to be using power, not producing it.

It doesn't look like anything we've seen before.
We know what a shield battery used to look like, it was kinda similar to a Photon Cannon.
The Photon Cannons look really similar to the last style. I don't think it's a shield battery.

    It must be something else.

    ...
    It's tall, it's technological...

    ...

I bet it's a radar array, something that puts units on your minimap or improves your line of sight.
    That's my best guess.

It's a new structure called the Tower of Starcraft Player Confusion. It causes your opponent to lose sleep because he spends all night wondering what it does. In his sleep-deprived state, he accidently orders his units to attack each other, then jumps out the window when he realizes he isn't winning. This structure is thus by far the most deadly weapon in the game, as it offers an instantaneous win.

It's most likely to be a Spell-Caster. (yes! a structure that casts spells)

It might be able to cloak all surrounding units just like the Arbiter.
Or maybe the Protoss replicated the Xel'Naga temple?

Either way this is probably the new "Ultimate Structure" :p

A building with a Cloaking field would certainly be interesting... it would add a whole new level of strategy to Protoss defense.

As for the Xel'Naga Temple, I find that unlikely. The original temple was much, much bigger. I doubt the Protoss would find a way to replicate it withing four years... realistically, it could take hundreds.

I think it's just a tech tree building. It looks sort of like a Protoss version of the Zerg Spire, so I bet it's used in the creation/upgrading of Phoenixes or Warp Rays.

I bet the mothership structure would be bigger, but who knows...

I should note now that there are more than one of these things. In the video, there is a second one a couple of building-lengths away from the first that you can see in the corner for a second or two.

    Well, that changes things.

Seems to be a static defense thing (Obviously).....Could be the new Forge or Cybernetics Core....I always build two or three of those for upgrades.
