Has anyone thought about the number of units each race will have now and how the difference in the number of different units may create a in-balance?

I mean more different units means more strategies and more possibilities right...

It was just a random thought i had after seeing all the units they are creating and those that are not coming back.

Welcome to the forums, pg! My bet would be that each civ. would get the same amount of units as in the original, or maybe 1 more each. I really don't see the number of units changing because the numbers in the original allowed for many strategies to begin with.

welcome, and eon is right i'm doubtful that they will go up to 17-18 units, 16 units will most likely be the max.

I think what pgalde meant was that if each race has the same number of units.

I would think so, as that would minimize that balancing troubles.

Protoss had more units in SC1 i think? With archons, dark archons and interceptors?

Anyhoo, starcraft 2 will be ALL about balance, everything else comes second

The protoss archons never turned the tide in my battles, because I never used them :) I much prefer to have two cloaked dark templars than one dark archon with abilities. Also, why make regular archons? The psonic storm from the high templar is much better than the single unit attack the archon has.

They can use it a couple of times, then retreat behind the main army. The normal archons died easily while only killing a few units because they had to be on the front line. I just don't see archeons being useful except for the dark archeon's mind control on workers.

I believe Blizzard itself has stated that they are trying to keep the number of units about the same.

No one is really sure, I don't think anything on it has been released. My guess is that they could go over streams where the land is close together, but I don't think they will be able to cross over open space.

There will be the same number of units. That's just an opinion. But I believe we'll get the same number than in Starcraft 1
