So this is a question I doubt anyone will actually be able to answer...I don't know how to ask Karune or anything, so I'm just going to post it. In WC3, since thats what we have to compare, when a unit "spoke" or a transmission was played, the Portrait would speak, but the actually units model would not. In cut scenes, closeups, and especially in the Bloodelf (Human) campaign when Killjaden was talking, it was really obvious, and, well, I felt it needed to be improved on. Any thoughts on this? Or, somehow, any incite?
I'm almost 100% sure we won't have that. Not only do most units not have mouths, the few that do wont' be having animations to show if they're talking.
I don't they'd even bother because there are so few units that would actually need it. All Protoss units communicate telepathically, none of the Zerg units talk and all the Terran units have their faces obstructed. The only models that they'd be able to do this with are the Kerrigan and a few Terran heroes who aren't wearing helmets, if there are any that is. I think it'd be too much effort for such a little result. If it could be applied to everyone, then maybe, but if there are only a couple of models that could use it, why bother?
Yeah yeah true. My only complaint is that I can't make the epic, holy, sacredly excellent cinnimatics so instead I use the editor. And I guess your right that there aren't any units that could really use that.
You noticed it in the cut scene with Killjaden because he's f**king huge. And all WC3 units are generally bigger, but even then you would not really notice if a hero unit moved his mouth or not when the portrait did.
The only thing I was thinking about was having the Display Portrait for when they talk..well, try to move the mouth to sound. I know a lot of software that has that ability. Sure, it won't be perfect lip sync, but at least if there is a second of silence in the transmission, the mouth won't be flapping away
Maybe if they wanted to they could release it in a patch or something. Its a good idea But i think it would be too small of a thing and take too much time to make happen.
