    Protos
    here is my little unit comparison
    phase prism = arbiter
    immortal = dragoon
    dark templar = stalker
    mothership and warp ray (because you only get one mothership) = carriers and their tow
    phoenix = scout

    zerg
    bane = scourge (only...the whole lack of air thing dosent make sense) or broodlings

    terran
    reapers =firebats

    I will update as time goes on

    Didn't we see firebats in the gameplay shown? Bane are probably the final advancement of regular humans into the swarm (i.e. infested terrans).

    I don't wanna lose my Dark Templar! get ride of the stinking reavers >.> i never use those things

    Carrier&arbitor finisher was like my favorite "Big battle" type attack. I'll be really disappointed if they are removed.

    no...the bane are those green ball like things that the zerglings turn into. and they...now that I think about it could take the place of broodlings

    wouldent u think bane would be too cheap i mean in the footage the zerg only used like 10 zerglings and evolved to banes then took down a colossos and 7 zealots. well if he still had the ones from the start he could of took the whole protoss base down in a couple of seconds

    The ability to upgrade into Banes is probably a tier 3 upgrade. 2 at the very least.

    It seems like Blizzard wants to make SC2 even more balanced than SC1. In SC1 it is possible to have an army only from carriers(or dragoons) and you can defeat your enemy with them. because carriers are strong against both aerial or land units, or close or ranged units. But now it seems like every protoss unit has its strong and weak side.
    Also, I don't know if battlecruisers have any additional penalty in SC2 as Blizzard didnt say much about terran and zerg units, but I think battlecruisers will be different from SC1's version (their yamato seems a little weaker..).
    It's a little pity, but it doesnt matter, because this is StarCraft 2 not a SC1 data disc! It can (and it should) be different from SC1 in many aspects, but as long as it will keep the same game feel and atmosphere it will be the best RTS again!

    I'm sorry for my english, hope you guys understand me..

    The immortals can be used to counter the Bane. They activate a special Protoss shield when hit with a very powerful attack. Notice in the demo they countered the Terran Siege Tanks on the cliff.

    your english was fine^^

    Yeah i agree with you, things have to change, otherwise starcraft 2 would be the same as 1 with better graphics. That hardly constitues a new game.

    But i'm still gonna miss it XD

    That and Dark templar rushing...so so easy to win doing that XD

    From:
    Gainesville, FL
    --Protoss--(you need two 's's, "protos" is the Greek word for "first", the origin of the Protoss name)
    I think the Phase Prism is the new Shuttle, they were treating it as a shuttle in the demos, but at the same time, with Warp-in, it also acts as an Arbiter, but then again, any Pylon is now like an Arbiter. What would the Protoss have to cloak units though? It is kind of a major component of the Protoss fleet. Maybe the arbiter will end up taking up a more specialized air role when they officially announce it.

    I think Immortal+Stalker = Dragoon++, they are splitting up its functionality and enhancing it at both ends: fast and hard hitting, slow and able to take a punch. I don't think the Dark Templar has been replaced.

    Another possible replacement is Colossus = Reaver, but their roles may partially overlap if they are retained, as I will cover in a second.

    I have to agree that the new Protoss air could easily replace the old Protoss air (minus the Arbiter's cloak)
    --Zerg--
    I think that if the Baneling is replacing anything, it is replacing the Infested Terran.

    --Terran--
    The Reaper and Firebat don't appear to serve similar functions. While it is still possible that they will end up removing Firebats, the Reaper seems to be an added role rather than a replaced role.

    While it makes sense to streamline units so as not to have overlapping roles, they also said that they intend to have more tech tree branches, more choices. That automatically implies more units, these units would indeed have some overlap in ability, but would also be able to do things that the similar units wouldn't. Think current SC, Mutalisks and Devourers overlap in the ability to attack air units, they're both pretty good at that, but they also specialize in the ability to attack ground with chained attacks(Mutalisk) and the ability to punch through enemy armor and slow down attacks with a splash attack(Devourer). Similarly, if they retain Firebats, they can overlap in the ability to engage light infantry, while they specialize in the ability to engage large numbers of ground units(Firebat) and the ability to punch through Immortal's shields(the flamethrower might be considered heavy enough to activate them) and jump cliffs(Reaper).

    This kind of overlap and specialization could apply to any of the units being replaced, so it is hard to speculate.

    10-Neon, you extracted the words straight from my mouth, multiplied them significantly, and posted them on a forum! ;D I too think about the unit replacements in a similar manner. My guess would be:

    Probe = Probe
    Zealot = Zealot
    Dragoon = Immortal + Stalker
    High/Dark Templar/Archon = High/Dark Templar/Archon
    Reaver = Colossus
    Shuttle + Arbiter = Phase Prism
    Corsair = Phoenix
    Scout = Warp Ray
    Carrier = Carrier
    Observer = Observer
    Mothership, being unique and a superweapon of sorts, shouldn't qualify as a whole "new unit".

    That gives a selection of old and new units we would all be satisfied with. If they do somehow go mad and decide to consider the Mothership a unit and uphold their 14 unit limit, my guesses would be that either the observer goes, and some ability-based type of scouting became available or that the two Archons would go and one new unit replaces it.

    I'm worried that the Phase Prism will replace the Arbiter, because like Neon said, the cloaking thing is a pretty big part of the Protoss make-up.

    yeah me too. I hope that blizzard will compensate our damaged emotions, somehow ^_^

    speculating is the only fun that we can do right now until they release the game ^_^

    yeah that would be silly if the technologically advanced protoss wont have any clocked unit, but the terran will. so I think that, surely there are more protoss units that were not revealed in the demo.

    oh! what if the phase prisms were to cloak units near them?

    You could warp in an army and they wouldnt be able to see it!

    In the demo they warped in some zealots and they didn't seem to be cloaked. But, like they said, nothing is final.

    Im going to list all my thoerys on unit changes and so forth, since all the threads have now been buried.

    The reaper is going to replace the vulture

    Infested terrans are now replaced with banelings

    The colosus replaces the carrier
    the phase prism and the warp gate replaces the shuttle and the arbiter
    the dragoon gets split into two subtypes the stalker, and the immortal
    the stalker is a light fast moving unit for taking down other small units
    the immortal is now a heavy sheilded unit for taking down other heavy units
    The reaver is replaced with the warp ray (in essance the reavers scarab ability is replaced with the colosus and the pheonix, so they gave protoss a seige unit that can take out buildings and heavy units aswell)
    the pheonix's overload ability replaces the reavers and the carriers "scarab and drone" ability
    The mothership replaces the carrier's flyer slot, and it may also replace the arbiters speacial abilities
    i expect one new ground unit to make up for the abilities of the arbiter if the mothership dosnt already do that

    All of this stuff seems likley, but it probably wont be actually be anything like this, its fun to specualte though

    Im sure ive missed somthing, please feel free to leave your Opinion

    Really people, go home and shut the fuck up. Im really getting tired of this. Nothing is gonna replace anything. Yeah maybe the immortal replaces the dragoon, but thats because of the story. But still, stop it. Blizzard is making a NEW game, with new ideas and new units. Nothing is gonna be replaced, its all gonna be brand new (with a few old units in it) so stfu.

    Damn, I must have a cranky morning :)
