    Hey guys,
I'll continue my research but I was wondering if any of you would know of a typing tutorial program that is customizable to practice my macro hotkeying. I tend to look at my keyboard to look at the numbers to get my hotkeys right either while Macroing or while microing(even bigger impact). Would you guys know of typing program where you can enter the strings of keys you want to practice and then get stats on it like # of errors and words a minute(roughly equal to your macro apm)

    ex:

4 dd tab ss tab vvdd (build 2 marauders two siege tanks 2 vikings and 2 medivacs)

2 e tab t tab e 3 a 2 a 5 ss 6 ss ( army, emp, stim, siege mode, air army attack different target, ground army focus fire, CC for 2 scvs, 2nd CC for 2more) and then back to the production sequence above etc...

I feel a lot of lower rank players like me could benefit from this by practicing outside the game in order to be able to focus on decision making instead of hotkey managing!

Someone could always just program it but that's beyond my skills : : )

    thanks guys,

    TB

I got my macro down by simply playing the AI and forcing myself to use only hot keys until I could beat it. As far as a typing program I've haven't seen anything like this yet. As a previous programmer however it wouldn't be difficult to create such an application just a little time consuming.

I don't think it'd be worth the time investment, tbh. Just play lots of 1vs1's against AI and use hotkeys like makeahole did. You'll get used to it earlier and see it in action. Plus that way you see exactly when you do something wrong and get to try not to right away.

It's not as fast a process as I think you'd like it to be but typing essays is what makes you familiar with your keyboard. The next step would be to play typing games which are also available for free online I'm sure.

Or play an MMO :p It took me less than 1 month in pvp in wow to learn to type incredibly fast and without looking at the keyboard(when you're doing premades with no voice comm and you have to type everything fast you get used to it :p) :p

I learned to type fast by first learning using the standard way today, using a computer program. I was some old DOS program that my High School used back in 1998...

Between that, lots of caffeine, and TetriNET (I don't like to brag, but I was as close as you would consider a "Grand Master", three time World Champion player)... I learned to type FAST.... I could build 30 sec tetris all the while typing to my opponents mocking them. Some people thought two people were playing the game same I was so fast. To bad the KBK turned down making it a Sport. -_-

Thing is, I didn't even know about StarCraft hotkeys until I really started getting serious about return to play for StarCraft II. I mean, my dream was to always play StarCraft 1 on a touch screen (I got a touch screen, I need a freakn' serial port!!)... so I am still just learning the hot keys... so its just practice.

I hate touch screens! I really do! Got a stupid thing with my hands and they have an 95% uptime sweat(but massive sweat!). Even with the mouse sometimes the mousepad gets so wet that it won't recognise movement(it's really, really annoying!). could wear gloves but that would be rediculus, plus the gloves themselves would be like a 200/200 zerg pop of bacteria amassed in a mass of sweaty creep(zomg, being gross must be a real talent, lol)

Btw, tetrinet on 1998? There was SC1 back then, and Red Alert and other cool games(but yeah, I know tetris can be somewhat of an addiction lolz).

Btw, just read on wikipedia that as of 2010 tetrinet was revived. So if you wanna relive some good old days:

(Although you can't have forgotten where to look for it anyway, rofl :p)

I'm rather good with touch screens. Working at 7-Eleven in FL for 3 years got my fingers adept at maintaining the proper amount of oil on your hands when using a touch screen.

    ...

Yeah, but between Fast TNET (The one second pause was gone between block drop) and the downing of KBK support.. I just gave up. Its hard to play a game when you keep wining and no one even puts up a challenge. If it would have gone pro, I'd have been on the first plan to S. Korea. lol

But TetriNET is the root of my fast typing, and simply not being happy with how fast I could type. Now I type at the rate I think, which is about 140WPM. Its one of the reasons I can hammer out those large Tech Support post so quickly... it simply isn't a bother.

I always read fast too (I get that from my mom). Perhaps it has something to do with reading my first MS-DOS book when I was 8, then just my absolute HATRED of reading fiction books. I mean, in the 6th grade, I was already reading books like "The Giver" regularly. I just want to read it, understand it, and move on.

Another technique my family would do is enable the closed captioning on the TV. Its no wonder it carried wonderfully over into watching fansubbed/legit anime.
I am very systematic. I can devourer technical manuals and History books in the blink of an eye, and retain so much of what I read. I spent a lot of time playing "memory games" to improve my memory when I was younger too, always had good meals growing up too. Had very few legos, but I'd build my own stuff out of them quiet a bit, and then tear it up and rebuild old stuff, combine stuff.. just to get the hang of following directions...

Am I wondering off topic? Its just development of the things that help my type fast. Its too bad my error ratio is total crap now @ 140WMP... I think I was better when I was around 90WPM. I am a crappy speller too.
