    How To Compress Wavs

    StarEdit can compress sounds so the map will the smaller. But for it to compress a sound it must be in 16 Bit Mono format.

    Here is how you do it using the Windows Sound Recorder application:

    Creating the Conversion Template:

    1. Open Sound Recorder (Most likely at 'START->PROGRAMS->ACCESSORIES->ENTERTAINMENT->SOUND RECORDER').
    2. Goto 'File->Properties'
    3. Click on 'Convert Now...'
    4. Select on the middle drop-down menu: 'Format: PCM'.
    5. Select on the bottom drop-down menu: '8.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Mono 15 kb/sec'
    6. Click on 'Save As...', type 'StarCraft' and click on OK.

    Converting the File:

    1. Open Sound Recorder (Most likely at 'START->PROGRAMS->ACCESSORIES->ENTERTAINMENT->SOUND RECORDER').
    2. Goto 'File->Properties'
    3. Click on 'Convert Now...'
    4. Select on the top drop-down menu: 'StarCraft'.
    5. Click OK and save the file.

    Repeat these steps for each sound that you want to compress. In the StarCraft Campaign Editor or StarCraft X-Tra Editor application, when you are selecting sounds to import, there is a list at bottom. 'Compression: Highest (Least Space)' is recommended.

    For additional wav editing, I suggest you download Audacity, a free sound editor, simply type Audacity in google search.

    I use a program for the computer which is very good at compressing WAV files and other audio formats. It converts video and audio if you are wanting to convert a video, and exports the file in the previous quality the original file was in. The program is called RAD Video Tools, and is totally free. You can download the program from its site.
