Here is a list of how to modify larger pieces of text: Code: [code]Preformatted Text * Left Aligned Text, like a bookCenter Aligned Text, like a poemRight Aligned Text, like an official documentTypewriter-Like Text* [ code]Display BBCode, HTML Code, and other Code without it affecting the post (without spaces)[ /code] ** *Affects of the code are not completely known. **Can be given the "=" property ([ quote=name]). [/code] Hosting Methods: This is how you get your files and images on to the internet. For downloads: rapidshare.com / megauploads.com / (there is one more specfically for StarCraft, can't remember) For images: imagenerd.com imageshack.com photobucket.com limitedgaming.com (I use this one), etc. Freewebs.com: For any and all hosting, you can open up an account at http://www.freewebs.com/ and upload all of your files to your account. This is what I due, except I have to use multiple accounts as a result of limited space. To know the link for a download, it depends on who/how it is being hosted. Here are a couple ways to check the website. Freewebs: If you are hosting it with freewebs, it is www.freewebs.com/yourusername/filename.fileextension where filename is whatever it was saved as, and the extension is the .exe or .jpg or whatever it is. Hosting Company: If you are hosting it with a website, such as FreeFileHost.com, it is whatever link they give you after you upload it to their site. Images, Files, and Links: This is how you place an image within a post. Example: my image link is www.freewebs.com/scrisk/SCRiskHead.jpg. I would put: Code: [img]http://www.freewebs.com/scrisk/SCRiskHead.jpg[/img] Which would come out as: [img width=590 height=235]http://www.freewebs.com/scrisk/SCRiskHead.jpg[/img] This is how you place a link within a post. Example: my link is www.freewebs.com/scrisk/. I would put: Code: [url=http://www.freewebs.com/scrisk/]http://www.freewebs.com/scrisk/[/url] Which would come out as: http://www.freewebs.com/scrisk/ This is how you give a link a different visual value. Example: my link is http://www.freewebs.com/scrisk/. I would put: Code: [url=http://www.freewebs.com/scrisk/]SCRisk-Come Play Risk![/url] Which would come out as: SCRisk-Come Play Risk! This can also be done with a file. Say i uploaded the file 'Program.exe' to my SCRisk site. Example: my link is http://www.freewebs.com/scrisk/Program.exe. I would put: Code: [url=http://www.freewebs.com/scrisk/Program.exe]Download It Here[/url] Which would come out as: Download It Here Here is how an image link works. Clicking on the picture takes you to my SCRisk site.* Example: Lets say my link is http://www.freewebs.com/scrisk/ and my image is http://www.freewebs.com/scrisk/SCRiskHead.jpg. I would put: Code: [url=http://www.freewebs.com/scrisk/][img]http://www.freewebs.com/scrisk/SCRiskHead.jpg[/img][/url] Which would come out as: [img width=590 height=235]http://www.freewebs.com/scrisk/SCRiskHead.jpg[/img] *Remember, links and links to files are always interchangeable. This means that instead of linking to a site, a picture can also open up a download for a file when you click on it. Post Organization: This is how to make a table within a post. Example: I want four cells, each with a different number. I would put: Code: 1 2 3 4 *Spaces are unnecessary Which would come out as: 1 2 3 4 Explanation: A [ tr] represents a new row, and a [ td] represents a new column. All columns are within rows, and all rows are within tables. This is how to make a list within a post. Example: I want a list of my 4 goals. I would put: Code: [list] [*]To Live [*]To Love [*]To Learn [*]To Leave a Legacy [/list] Which would come out as: To Live To Love To Learn To Leave a Legacy Explanation: [ li] shows a new List Item, and [ /li] ends that list item. They do not have to be seperated with new lines, but it is easier to see that way. This explains Horizontal Rules and how they are used. Horizontal Rules: Horizontal rules are straight lines that run accross the width of the post box. They are a good way to show breaks within a large post. Here is how it looks and its code. Code: Above_________________________________________________Below Above the Horizontal Rule_________________________________________________Below the horizontal Rule Credits: Ideas by Imperial-guard and ZeR[g]LiNg, help by Z-BosoN. Re: [Tutorial] EatMe's Guide to Basic Posting Code: [code]As you can see here the forum software is not always cooperative Damn 1200 minerals. Congradulations I would like to add that you can also label an author for quotes Type Code: [quote=authorname]quoted text[/quote] to get you might want to add that Also for text modification since you didn't explain that I will. Size is done with Code: [size=#pt][/size] 1pt text 5pt text 10pt text (forum default) 20pt text You can do any size in a range from 0 to 100 but it is best to stay between 5 and 20 for readability sakes. For color you can either use a color name {code][/code] like this or use hex coding where this Code: [color=#ooff99] outputs this Remember the '#' or it won't work. Here is a color table for reference [img width=150 height=205]http://www.mutohgraphics.com/image/color_chart_prnt.gif[/img] Click for a larger image Also as exampled above larger pictures can be resized by using the height and width modifiers in the img tag the code above was Code: [img width=150]http://www.mutohgraphics.com/image/color_chart_prnt.gif[/img] _________________________________________________ Why was this moved? This is more relavent to the froum information than computing
Re: [Tutorial] EatMe's Guide to Basic Posting i would edit, but i dont remember if there is a mineral punishment. also, 100 mineral bonus to BirdOfPrey for an addon after submission.
Re: [Tutorial] EatMe's Guide to Basic Posting It's fine to edit. I dunno why it was moved.....But this is great info.... Stickied (I've always wanted to say that )
Re: [Tutorial] EatMe's Guide to Basic Posting Nope no fine for edits. Can't see why you would think that.
Re: [Tutorial] EatMe's Guide to Basic Posting there was a discussion on that... expect BirdofPrey's addon in the correct layout by tomorrow, and the Modifying Text section to be expanded within the month. (hopefully week... im giving myself slack-off time)
Re: [Tutorial] EatMe's Guide to Basic Posting Haha, sorry, Eatme. I moved the thread because technically it's a tutorial. I know it's highly related to the forum, but I felt it would be more at home here... simply because it's a tutorial . Anyway, there's still a moved link and it should show up on a search. Furthermore, feel free to edit your post. It's a great one.
Re: [Tutorial] EatMe's Guide to Basic Posting Things don't go here just because they are tutorials. This is the COMPUTER section this thread is FORUM INFORMATION I think more people would see it if it were in the Forum info section. That is the more important part is for vereyone to see it so they know what to do
Re: [Tutorial] EatMe's Guide to Basic Posting It's for the mineral hunt he did last night, I'm not sure if it still needs to be there.
Re: [Tutorial] EatMe's Guide to Basic Posting Him owing me 200 minerals. He had a mini-mineral hunt last night
