    What is Torchlight?
Pretty much a game similar to Diablo, Mythos, or Fate. In fact, Max Schaefer and other Blizzard North members worked on this game, as well as members from Mythos and Fate. Matt Uelman (composer for DI and DII) composed the music for Torchlight which makes the game have that whole Diablo feeling.

I bought it and I have to say it's pretty fun. I'm pretty bummed out that there is no co-op, but once the game's multiplayer functionality is developed, I'm sure it will be amazing. Technically, it may be a Diablo clone, but it's really fun nonetheless. Did I mention it comes with a level editor for easy mod making?

Anyone else have it? What do you think? If not, try the demo for free (on steam however, not sure if there is another download source).

It looks pretty interesting, like you said a lot like Diablo...

I've never played Diable, Mythos, or Fate nor really interested in playing these type of games... But maybe I could give this one a shot.

Doesn't that kind of ruin the purpose of making your own levels if, for the moment until multiplayer is added, you know all the tricks to it?

Looks nice, I'd like to try the demo, but no steam :/

Are the levels in "campaign" (or whatever there is) preset or random like in Diablo?

    The maps are randomized.

Its a fun game. The reason its just like Diablo is because I think 2-3 of the creators from Diablo made this game.
Like an above poster said the only downfall is it has no LaN to Co-op with a friend Or multiplayer I hear they are working on it though once it releases I think it will be a game i regularly play... Untill SC2 or D3 comes out :p

Not quite sure what you mean ruined? SP is ruined because of the level editor?

    No no.

The level editor sounds kind of null right now because I wouldn't find making my own map and then playing though, knowing how it goes, to be too exciting.

Just bought this on Steam a few days ago and I'm liking it so far. It's no surprise it's a lot like Diablo since it was made by guys from the original team. What character do you guys play as?

Hey another question. How's the saving done? Something like D2 or normal save/load?

My character was about 50 something, then I had to reinstall my game, so 24 now.

As for saving, I have the steam version so I'm not too sure? But if you have the store bought version, I "think" it's similar to D2. I'm just basing this off other forums explaining how to back up their saved characters.

What does it matter if it's steam or store? I don't mean files, just how it works in game. Like in Diablo you had to save manually and that would store all the info from your game so far, but if you forgot to save and died you lose all progress.
In Diablo 2 you don't have a save option, just your character is saved when you leave game, but monsters respawn and you have to continue from the latest waypoint. On the other hand if you die you can still get to your corpse and continue with just some penalties.

Which one is this closer to?

It'd be closer to diablo but it's a bit different from D2 too. The saving in torchlight basically works in real time with the world. It's kind of like the game is saving every second. There is no save feature in torchlight, you simply quit the game. When you come back, you'll be in the same spot you were standing when you exited, and any portals (such as a town portal) are still open. I actually had the game crash on me once, and when i restarted the game, I was still in the same spot, with the portal i had just opened there.

I haven't actually gone back up a floor after exiting, but I'm pretty sure that the monsters don't re-spawn. However, you can always buy portals to randomly generated levels to grind.

Oh, kinda neat, but I'll have to see how it works out.

What about dying then? I assume you respawn in town or something with a penalty?

Everytime you die, you're given three choices between what to do. You can either respawn in town for free, there's no penalty attached to it. You can restart at the beginning of the floor for gold, or you can respawn where you died by sacrificing experience and fame.

Oh I thought you meant looking for your saved files out of game :p

Then yeah ssjfox pretty much said it all.

BUT monster do respawn, but only after you leave the region. What I mean is, If you're in the church (diablo 1 area), the monster wont respawn until you reach something as far as the caves area. I remember an early quest mid game and some monsters were back.

Found out the "hard" way. I was in boss chamber on level 4 and went up stairs to finish a quest - got jumped by a boss right at the stairs of a cleaned level.

I say "hard" because the game's not difficult at all at least not yet (just fought overseer). Oh and I'm playing a marksman vanquisher on hard difficulty.

Is there a way to transfer items between chars? Of course the best stuff I find is for other classess >.>
EDIT: Apparently this one's in the FAQ as a yes. Nice.

In that case another question. Does the town music feel a little bit like Tristran to anyone beside Meee?

Yep it feels like tristram, haha. Not surprised since it's the same composer.

If you want to up the difficulty (if very hard isn't hard enough) there are mods that get rid of easy and normal and replace them with nightmare and insane.
