before i played SC2, I was playing a lot of Heroes of Newerth, which is pretty much dota from WC3 with better graphics. I realized that it really improved my micro, controlling my units and using abilities effectively. I suggest you guys to try out this game for fun, and for practice.

This came to my mind because during a SC2 game I out micro'd my opponent who was in platinum. I had 8 blink stalkers, 4 sentries and my base was destroyed, i took out his whole army of marine and marauders 3 times using cliffs and ramps and eventually suffocating his base to death. I used my sentries to FF the ramp as I shot them up from the top of the cliff and blink to them when they were running away, and blinking away 1 by 1 in order to avoid fire. It was micro intense.

    what do you guys think?

I prefer league of legends. Plus it's free.

League of Legends is less competitive and less strategic according to eSports discussions and is more noob friendly. I've played it and its not as intense, no wonder it's free LOL

Just because you don't have people who yell at everyone literally every game, doesn't mean it's less intense. League of Legends is just as competitive, graphics mean nothing.
HoN is just as noob friendly as League of Legends.
I played dota for 3 years, ever since I was in 6th grade, I played everyday and loved it.
I prefer League of Legends because it is unique, it is very strategic.
Any game you play will improve your micro, I don't think it was just a game style like that. Yes it probably helps with the clicking, and abilities, but practice is practice.

Are we really gonna get into this? League of Legends is significantly better for a lot of reasons. It's equally competitive but can be played causally, its much better maintained and balanced, but most importantly, it's not DotA HD. LoL isn't afraid to change things, and in the end that's what makes it better than HoN.
Hasn't done **** for my micro though. I find that whether I win or lose my apm is 20-30 lower than my opponent. I have a positive record though, so whatever.

    ???

HoN - Who wants a really improved dota its the dota in its own game

LoL - Dota with a twist

    God whatever suits you
If you say hon is bad you really do say dota is much overall bad

And why do you have to change so much? It is basically dota in its own game it doesn't want to change anything it just wants to be dota the game. Just like any mod who became a real game

    However to come ontopic

I think that real time strategy games help you immensely, I mean maybe not hyper micro help way, but really getting this basic understanding and resource management etc.

If I just was pure fps gamer I just never think that I would be even close to the level I am at starcraft 2

The benefits from FPS games though is that they teach precision.

Too often I see people click a unit and click move four times to an area that size of a penny on my screen and that shows up as "Wicked SICK APM!!!!"

FPS games teach that you need to make your moves count so thats been a big plus.

Anyway, as far as DOTA is concerned, all that game ever taught me is how not to treat noobs.
