I'm going to get a new guitar soon (as soon as I get the money anyways) and I have no idea which amp I should buy. I play mostly classic rock and metal (artists like Santana, Metallica, AC/DC, etc.) and I have my mind set on a Gibson Les Paul Studio. I don't need something that's got amazing volume, although that would be nice, just one with good sound for both clean and distorted. It should also be up to $500 but I could be flexible if it was really worth it. Poll: Fender Stratocaster, Gibson Les Paul, Studio, or Gibson SG Classic?
A LP has a great warm sound, and many of the classic rockers used them. However, it's definitely not geared towards metal. To grab both those sounds, I would recommend the Gibson SG. It's got a lovely classic rock sound (It was actually used extensively by all three of the bands you named), and it's still good today for whatever. I'm not sure on the pricing, I'm assuming it's the same general cost. However, it's not just the guitar that makes the sound, it's the amp and even the cable. A 1,200 dollar guitar will sound like crap through cheap end amps and cables. I recommend a Peavey amp for a good amp for the money, and at least 20-25 dollars for a cable.
I dunno. I'm still not sure about the guitar. I was going to choose between a Fender Strat American Deluxe, a Gibson LP Studio, a Gibson SG Classic, and an ESP KH-602. If I decide get the ESP that's the end of classic rock for me but I guess I could live with it. But yea, any specific amps?
I dunno any good guitar amps, most my knowledge of the technical side of things is geared toward basses. I use a Peavey MicroAmp for my bass, and I'm extremely pleased at the sound quality it puts out. I bought it brand new for 85 USD. It wasn't a top of the line, but it sound good with my bass, so yeah.
I don't think there's much point in a poll because you seem to be the only one who knows about guitars... =P And yeah, Death Magnetic sounds great. It might not be as good as ...And Justice For All or Master of Puppets, but it sure will kick St. Anger's ass out of the park.
