Those ^ are not ranks....

Check the NUCLEAR LAUCH DETECTED pic of the "ghost" unit page. All of those units have ranks. Do ranks symbolize the level of upgrades? Or is it the C&C thing everyone talks about?

We can't be sure because Blizzard hasn't said what those "marks" are. I do beleive they said they wont be using a veterancy system. So I dont think its the C&C thing, but of course one person seems something that looks similiar to it and screams C&C rank system.

Strange there have been no comments anywhere so far.

This is why I think those things are not ranks:
The army's thingies point upwards, not downwards. Also, there are only two of them in all of the screenshots weve seen so far. I think that there should be a single one before being a second one.
I think that they are actually just pointing at the unit to indicate something about it.

Yeah it would be to much CnC... Although it seems possible that just the Terran has these ranks.

ive only seen the chevrons on terrans, so gasmaskguy's suggestion could be correct. and would make the most sense.

Ive seen only double ^s so far. Never seen a single one. Maybe they are not really ranks, besides the armys ^s point upwards, not downwards. Seem like an indicator about the units something to me.

Well, lets hope those chevrones actually are the new protoss observers floating in the way of everything.
But to be serious, now that I think about it, giving SOME units the rankability wouldnt be that bad. They already tried that with the Soul Hunter, so giving it to just siege tanks and/or marines wouldnt be a disaster... Especially since siege tanks dont have any other abilitys than siege mode. A passive one for the tank could be nice.

in WC3 there were arrows on some of the hero's that were getting items, but obviously there are no items in SC2, i hope. hmm... i'm not sure why they would show the ranks on top of the hero when they can just do it where they normally do, in the text box thing.

 

Lol, that is a good point. Although you didn't really say anything with the ranks. I am pretty sure they are not really ranks though.

Maybe it's a bonus action or ability for a certain number of kills the unit makes. Thats the only thing I can think of besides maybe since their being attacked or engaging the enemy it's part of the audio notice that lets you know that your under attack.

 

i think it's level of upgrades, it would make sence. like if it's leveled twice there are those 2 insignia things on top.

 

So far I have not even seen two yet. Barely one. You could be on to something though.

That is really weird. Never quite noticed that before.

*shrugs* The only thing that comes to mind would be the aforementioned ranks or possibly some alternate way of selecting groups of units. Aside from that, it escapes me.

 

yea that's a good point, the only option i see is... well, ranks :O. it does make sence, the ghost get ranks for sniping a lot of dudes, the tank get ranks for the exploding lots of dudes, and the bc gets ranked for ownaging... i mean u dont see any scv's with ranks or any marines with ranks. only the units that get a lot of kills do.

IVe seen marines with ranks. They are in the screenshot im talking about, closer to the bunkers.

 

Yeah it is in this picture, I don't really know how to attach pictures though so if it comes out different don't make fun of me.
Edit: Okay mevermind it is fine. The marines are located between the first and second supply depots and are put in a red box
