I was in a game where I took control of the map. I had 60 mutas, 10 Guardians, 5 Corrupters, and about 40 banelings. I've killed most of his army and his attempt at expanding to gold after i had stripped clean one mine entirely. I attack his only expansion i sent in the banelines from the side but one or two siege tanks insta killed them, i saw the ground forces and 60 mutas would overwhelm anything. What I didn't see was two thors standing on a ledge, within seconds 60 mutas and 5 corrupters were killed by TWO Thors. Then the guardians were derelict and were taking down by the very small amount of vikings that he had. TWO Thors, should not be able to dominate Zerg air. They have freaking 400 hp. Thats an obscenely powerful counter, its even worse than corsairs. I guess it just sorta sucks that Terran is the best race and have very hard counters...too anything. Lets not even go into the much underutilized Raven. The thing is like a flying reaver that resembles an arbiter and cast a version of one of the zergs most powerful spells Dark Swarm, ala defense drone.

I'm not for Zerg OR Terran, but as I recall, Mutas are pretty much the exact unit type Thors are designed to counter (small light air that stacks).

    Could be wrong.

And Terran are NOT the best race. I'm a horrid player, but I can beat most my matches against Terran when the player is the same ranking as I.

    1. don't bunch up your units so much.
    2. don't rely on any single unit so much.
    3. know your counters. zerglings > thors.

your units were positioned in the best way for the best unit to slaughter them. and they were slaughtered. this is all your fault, that's all i have to say. thors cost 300 minerals and a ton of gas- 200 minerals worth of zerglings could have taken them out, but you didn't build them. spreading out your mutas into several control groups instead of one massive ball could have taken out those thors. but you didn't.

so you cry "thors are imbalanced!" instead.

    1. You had a strange army composition for a heavily opposed battle.

    2. Your opponent had a more balanced and properly-countered army.

Thors and Siege Tanks are effectively static forces in a battle since they lack maneuverability.

Mutalisks are at their best operating on hit-n-run around the map. Their speed counts for nothing when they're hovering mid-air and duking it out in a battle. Banelings (with speed) are front-line sappers meant to do area-damage versus large balls of units. An indirect counter to area-damage is to get massive units like Thors where the amount of units-per-area is decreased. You pretty much removed the strengths of your units composition and force-fed them into the strength of your opponent's army composition.

This was "square peg into round hole" syndrome on your part.

I've actually managed to destroy Thors using Mutalisks, but micro is key when doing so. It's best to let them fly in, fire off one volley of attacks, then fly out before your opponent can respond. Using a Corruptor's Corruption ability will undoubtedly make things go faster.

Maybe I've just been lucky with my opponents not having any mobile detectors, or maybe I've been lucky that my opponents have never thought to focus fire, but I find that Roaches with full research can utterly destroy Thors, as well as a sizeable chunk of any Marines/Marauders/Tanks that may be accompanying them.

As a Terran player I must agree, that was completely your fault, and next time get infestors.

Well for one zerglings were moot at that point in the game, due a large force of banshees and some viking and several siege tanks, he was turtled in. If I was smart I would have just contained him. going 200 psi with adrenal-speedlings probably would have been a game winner, but I was feeling cocky.

Doing the math, I out-resourced him and contained him to his depleting natural. 6000/6000 on the mutas 3000/3000 on BL, AND 750/500 on corrupters. Died to 600/400 worth of units. Thats not balanced.

    no, that's just stupid.

so he had 2 thors. you didn't notice for "just a second". a thor does about 50 damage per volley. 2 thors would still need 2 volleys to kill a muta. he probably needed more if you didn't deliberately stack mutas as tightly as possible.

so i'm guessing his thors launched maybe 6 volleys at your mutas while you sat there doing nothing. good job. by your account, you also ran your banelings straight towards his seige tanks. great work on that, too. your mutas were attacking the ground army instead of hitting the vikings... you know, those units that specialize in killing off large air units like brood lords. nice job.

did you know you could lose ALL that to a single 100/100 nuke as well? gosh golly darn, nukes are unbalanced too! terrans are so unbalanced! against a player of your caliber, at least.

What the hell? That's like saying you got 100 zerglings, and I get a few high templar and some zealots. Then when I pwn you with them, you complain that high templars are op. When it's your fault for getting the zerglings in the first place and not countering my templars.

Terrans will be nerfed, and then you will need to relearn how to play. Cry more, laugh later. The mutas wer engaging other ground units and turrets. His Thors were placed far away on a ledge so that i could not see them. The guy confirmed that each of his Thors had 29 kills each (happened in a few seconds), and they had not been in combat before. The ground units and turrets may have killed like 6 units, and the 4 remaining vikings he had killed off my bls, with the help of Thor power. Vastly unreasonable. I play ALL races, I'm a solid player, and I can say from the experience of having played all races extensively, I always feel stronger as Terran, because of their sadist hard counters.

I got 200,000 zerglings and my enemy had 1 void ray and HE KILLED ALL OF THEM.

I spent 250,000,000 minerals on them, and he only needed one 250/150 void ray to take them out! OP!

I like how you completely ignored asdf's post, which states that two thors could not have killed all of those mutas that quickly and that you would have had to leave the mutas bunched up there for more than a couple of seconds to get them all killed.

I hardly ever use Thors at all. Their only good against Mutalisks. Thors are not overpowered at all, get some infestors, some zerglings, and their done. All you needed was some lings. Im not crying, im simply telling you that Thors are not Overpowered, and that you need to learn to play if you think they are. The only OP unit in the entire game is the Void Ray and I think we can all agree on that. Also im looking forward to a response to asdf's post.
