The Thor is far from a "dead horse". First of all, the Thor is created not from a factory, but from itself. This gives it mulitple micro-able opportunities. Coupled with its slowness, it allows players to think about it and maybe pull of something sneaky, such as building a few right outside their base or something. Also, the Thor is a slow unit and rather defenseless by itself. This means the player much use other units that will help the Thor survive while it's attacking. Finally, the Thor has its barrage ability. Although this is a very powerful attack, it makes the Thor immobile and thus unable to retreat. This makes the player have to think about when to use barrage and if it will be a good idea. If you use barrage to decimate a zerg base and find out you don't have any support for it, the zerglings will come and rip it apart.
Thor is not a new siege tank. I may have a siege modeish type ability but it not the same as a tank. Thor is much slower than a tank. Thor attacks much slower Thor is build by an SCV Thor is very very expensive.
I would actually say that the barrage is more comparable to a psi-storm or tiny nuke than the arclite/crucio's siege mode.
Tankman131 next time use the search function, this has been posted before. I dont really know how they will make the Thor, but it will not be easy
Thor is one dead horse which I would gladly kick It has NOT been confirmed it has the artillery strike ability back, and also that it has increased damage. It has no AA. Its smaller, cheaper and weaker than the original model. That's all. Cut it out please.
I do not like the thor, i think it should be removed too! (and then give terran the predator and perhaps a GtA (PERHAPS))
From what I know, Thor has been revamped. It doesn't have the barrage ability anymore. Instead, at the moment that we know of, Thor needs to be killed twice in order to be fully taken down. When you first take down a Thor, it would be crumbled to the ground. It cannot move but it can still attack enemy units near it. You can order an SCV to repair the Thor. Once it's repaired, it can move + attack again. In order to kill the Thor, you have to kill it twice. But it seems that Blizzard has not finalized what the Thor's role is going to be. I remembered Karune posting that they are playing around with the Thor to have some sort of anti-air capability. We will just have to wait and see what it turns out in the end.
playing around with units is probably one of their best way of producing their final decision to create their exact idea of the Thor Hope they will find a good role for it
Ah, I did not know that. I have 2 reactions. 1. No barrage... damn. I loved the sound and the animation of the thor pulling out the cannons on his back... now i guess blizzard will have to cut those out or something. 2. The whole "2 lives" thing sounds very neat. It's pretty cool that it'll still be able to attack whilst on damaged though.
to me, it seems like the idea of a second live could be a bit hokey, and that blizzard might take it out, but it does seems like an interesting idea
Reminds me of the ahnk of regeneration from warcraft that revives hero's when they die. I hope nobody thinks this is too "warcrafty".
I'm surprised they haven't scrapped it and replaced it with something else. They replaced firebats with Marauders, Cobras with Jackels (I liked Cobras better too) and they scrapped the Predator altogether...I bet Thor is going to get a total rework too.
i rkn they havent touched it yet after saying that "thor has two lives now" same as the mothership they are too busy with the zerg, but dw...they will tell us soon of what will happen to the mothership and the thor.
