Maybe you guys pay attention to the news maybe you guys don't. All I know is that I feel disturbed enough to tell people of this risk. Apparently there is this nasty program called Conficker our there that is not currently activated. What it does nobody knows. What they do know is that it is waiting for a command form the one who created it. Whoever created it has pledged to activate it at midnight April 1st. It only effects PC users and the most recent updates will prevent it from getting unto your computer. If it already is on your computer then the update will not remove it and it will still activate. There are special programs to remove it but it is also known that Conficker will stop you form getting these programs. Turning on your comptuer April 2nd will not protect you. The only way to know if you have it is to run your PC in safe mode and check the running programs. Hopefully that has informed some of you and for thsoe who already know, sorry for telling you stuff you already know.

Lol, even if this wouldn't probably be joke #545461375, then I still do not care. My gaming pc has seen no internet for three months now. Meh, I need some b.net action.

Yeah part of me thinks it may just be a joke, but I ain't willing to take the risk. Both my computers are connected to the internet, my desktop handles online games and my laptop does web surfing. So yeah I'll admit I am panicking.

I have a MacBook. Sometimes it pays to be the outlier (although they're getting too popular now).

The thing is that it won't work according to what I've heard. Those companies that make firewalls and spy ware protectors don't know what it does because it hasn't been programmed to do anything. It's been programmed to spread and wait for the rest of the code of what to do. For all we know it could simple make your printer print a smiley face.

Here's a website with a bunch of technical details on the worm: http://mtc.sri.com/Conficker/addendumC/index.html

From what I have read, the strangest thing (to me) is the inclusion of md6 instead of sha1 for hashing, since md6 and its update were integrated with Conficker very shortly after their release.

Whoever created and maintains Conficker is clearly a genius. Probably an evil genius.

I'm definitely glad I am running OS X.

I'm pretty frightened of this because I really do not want another virus to infect my already broken (not literally...) computer. I saw a report on Conficker on the news tonight and I think I, luckily, do not have it because I can still go to McAfee.com, which the virus should block.

If it is all just a huge April Fool's joke.... then.... I do not know what I'll do,

I wouldn't mind my computer being destroyed.

All the music I like from it is on my MP3, easily transferrable.

Most of my images are from 4chan.

Not hard to find them again.

And I need a new one anyways.

If you your computer asplodes, just disconnect from the internet and reformat.
