This has been on my mind for ages now. Please tell me what you think. All I have to say for now is:

Check it to see a part of gaming history. Just a small download, works on windows xp, and fully legal. -abondonware now-

There was no Dune. Dune was a sci-fi novel this game is based upon. It's the first rts ever that you could play with a mouse and the first game Westwood made afaik.

Also, Starcraft was heavily influenced by it. Just look at the tech levels, the 3 races and the perfect balance and counters. I think I can safely say that this game meant a revolution for videogames. All types. Just be sure to install all the patches and read the manual if you feel like playing it. Anyone who liked Starcraft and is interested in where it came from, should really play this imo.

    Oh yeah, forgot about that.
Dune ( was a first person adventure where you had to take over the planet.

You played as a member of House Atreidies -never get the name right- and had to convince Fremen tribes to team up with you. It should be on that site as well, along with the 1st command and conquer and other classic masterpieces.

    Added a poll.

    *hurray for not showing usernames*
Maybe that will cause people to vote...

What about Dune 2000 after Dune 2?

Dune 2000 was a crappy remake, and Empero: Battle For Dune was fun, but had better stayed 2D. The graphics were pretty bad and got a lot of negative comment. The real actor cutscenes were fun, though.

As for the poll, I think the game is really the source of rts, but Dune wasn't meant to be one..

Lol, sonic tank speed glitch ftw.
I usually play Ordos or Harkonen, though. I hate those Fremen always attacking the wrong stuff.

Other glitches: save right before a nuke hits you. If it does hit you, reload and it misses. And having enemy infantry on spice booms is hella funny when it explodes. XD

Just downloaded and played a few, having the game crash when you put the wrong answer to questions you have no way of knowing without cheating and using google is mean. :(

Have you installed the extra patches as well? That should prevent it from crashing. And those mentat people are hilarious at times. ^^

I doubt that piracy even existed back then. XD
Nah, just joking, but just use google, or guess. Most awnsers should be pretty obvious.

Oh, copy protection questions, i googled them.

I think i've been spoiled. The repetitiveness and frustrating interface and controls are annoying me by game 5. :p Good game my attention span is just too short.

And abandonware isn't technically legal, just nobody cares because it doesn't hurt anyone unlike supported games.
