I think the the Phoenix, the new Protoss light spacecraft, is really weak- if it wasnt for its overcharge ability, which can be EASILY avoided even by beginners, it wouldnt be even better that the old scout or corsair in SC1. and the aftermath of the overcharge is as good as suicide.

I REALLY dont like this new unit. It needs a VERY GOOD upgrade or the axe.

    What do you think?

I think the overload ability is actually quite good. You don't want to use that ability when it is the only unit you have, but if you have several phoenixes and use one or two of them on overload, you can bring serious force to bear on enemy air units. Also, if you're completely outnumbered and going to die anyway... well, it might as well go out in a blaze of glory and try to take down what it can. The protoss have an amazing Air Force and the phoenixes complement it well. I think, as specialists, they will do better than the twin-rolled valkyrie, actually. And other than the mutalisk we don't know about the Zerg Air units, but if mutalisks don't have a serious new ability, they'll get destroyed en masse by the phoenix.

Has anybody who was at Blizzcon actually played with the Phoenix? We could settle the debate once and for all.

As for my thoughts, I also really like Overload. It is really useful when activated at the right times. And I am sure that the Phoenix can easily destroy its Terran or Zerg counterparts, making it plenty effective.

The warp field which powers the craft is diverted through its weapons to cause the overload, so it really wouldn't make much sense to have it able to move as well. From SC2.com:
As for the overload ability, I would personally like it to be more powerful and (especially) to have a fairly long range to prevent everyone from just microing out of it, but really, I think blizzard will make it pretty well balanced.

I think it complements protoss' way. It's like a way of samurai where fight till the bitter end

I must agree with You on that one protosscommander , but to me it's just an scout/fighter jet protoss unit , nothing to special.

funny that you think pheonix is weak because it has been reported as the most overpowered unit from most blizzcon attendees.

thats right.. Phoenix are the hottest unit for the protoss.. not even the mothership or carriers can stand against a well tactic played phoenix forces...

only noobs are able to judge that phoenix are weak ^_^ ^_^ since it takes a pro to pilot them well, not that i favor much for the phoenix.. its just that you have to be able to handle micro tactics to be able to pull them out for the win..

I also didn't like the phoenix at first, it seemed slow and cumbersome in the video and overload seemed nothing special. But in time, I've come to love it. As someone else already said, it complements the toss air force very well and overload can really be put to use in many ways when you start thinking about it.

Can't wait to overload on an enemy carrier's interceptors!

I really like the phoenix if you have good micro skills. I would get a dozen and rotate 2 every time to overload... Once they are back online, switch two back in...

i believe it does, for two Phoenixes used overload at the same time during the Protoss gameplay video(the 20 minutes-long)

i like the Phoenix.at first i thought it was weak as well, but now i see it's pretty good.i just wish they upgrade the visuals for it's attack.it looks so weak it's not even funny...
