because we don't have enough threads discussing silly things.

I have to say I love the atlantis sets, even though most of its constructions are just variations on the same principle (fish-monster for the atlanteans, mini-sub for the humans).

Not that there is anything wrong with the big sets(except the price :( )

    (the mini-mecha becomes a mini-sub, the big mecha becomes an under-sea six-wheeler)

also, have some star wars mandalorians

An oldie, but still one of my favorites. Also one of the few sets I tried to keep together instead of stripping down for raw material:

Maybe it's just nostalgia over the sets I had when I was a kid, but most of the stuff LEGO is putting out nowadays seems ****ty. I can sort of understand why they're rehashing their old set themes, but being what it is I find it really weird that LEGO would sell itself out to so many TV/movie franchises like it has.

If lego ever started to make sets solely targeting older audiences, which franchises would you like to see?

    Watchmen would be pretty hilarious

I'd like to see more Rube Goldberg machine sets. Those are always my favourite.

The picture on the box does not begin to do it justice. It is really really cool.

Why does ninjago have to be all about the goddamn spinning game. The models are freaking awesome.

I don't see how these are legos. What happened to only using bricks and such? These things have fancy-fan curves and shiz

I would like to remind you that the original legos were wooden figurines, so going back to using large specialized blocks for certain parts is going back to the original.

I need to second Jon because this isn't classic lego. Classic lego used blocks that you could use to build anything you could think of. Nowadays these toys have too specific shapes that can only build a handful of stuff at most. Priority has shifted from versatility to looks.

I'd say part of it stems from the unnecessary- hell, just plain lazy merging traditional Lego pieces with those of their Lego TECHNIC line; just look at the foot-pieces on all of those dragons. They could have easily been made with some 1x2 or 1x3 diagonal blocks, or the little 1x4 hinge pieces (not the clicking ones, the older two/three forked free-movers) but instead they use those claw pieces, which look like they may or may not come from Bionicle.

Aside from that though, the sets aren't terrible (aside from genuinely stupid names - who the hell thought Ninjago would roll off the tongue?). From what I can tell the building portions are actually "playing by the rules" so to speak, and the newer medieval themed sets are still using parts that were made back when I was still playing with 'em.

@drie: are the studs on those oxford sets compatible with actual Lego pieces?

The sets are awesome, but I do believe that TECHNIC should be a seperate line.

That said, Bionicle is the greatest thing LEGO has ever done.

everything on the oxford sets is compatible with lego, except the leg and body pieces on the minifigs.

I'm not sure about the whole foot thingie, mostly because they are great parts for constructing stuff yourself, but if you have good alternatives, like the hands on the fire dragon show, it does get a bit annoying that you just used a single immobile part where you could offer a better alternative.

This guy made one cool town:

    http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=53428

and the newest series of collectable minifigs has been announced

question: do we really need a new fisherman every single damn series?
And the guy from irregular webcomic can finally get some chimps.

Collectible miniatures aren't really my thing, but they are often previews for new parts to come. This series doesn't feature many new interesting parts, but the sword and helmet on the gladiator look pretty cool. I hope this leads to a new series.
