The Marauder

What could the Marauder be?, we know it is a melee killer so could it also have a flaming attack?

 

He never said it was a melee unit just that it replaced the firebat.

That means it is a crowd control unit. Im thinking it is a fast-firing factory unit with a couple of chain guns that do extra damge to infantry but are near useless against larger units

Whoops my bad. I hope it can kill ranged infantry as well. Marines and Hydras are dangerous

 

Melee terran? It sounds awesome (read: swords).

So here's a crazy theory.

The Marines in the Starcraft beta/alpha were actually called Marauders. Take that!
So I guess the SC2 Marauder is some kind of buffed up Infantry unit.

 

Hopefully it WON'T be melee attack based as the fact that in sc1 the terrans had no REAL melee unit (firebat had a 2 tile range, i think) and it is what helped make them unique among the 3 races.

Also, it appears from the short description of the battle that this "Marauder" was sent in right after an emp strike, this (assuming this all happened during late game) would indicate that the unit will still be of great use late game.

 

EMP is a ghost ability. If the Ghost is still a 1.5 level unit then its not really all that late at all.

 

They never said it was a melee unit. They did say that it replaced the Firebat's role, and that it "made quick work" of the enemy ground force. So we know it is most likely ground attack only.

As I mentioned in the Q & A thread, I personally think that the unit is going to be completely different from the Firebat. Blizzard tried to include the Firebat, but it didn't appear to work.

The definition of marauder is basically a raider/pillager in times of war. However, the Terrans already have the Reaper (raiding unit), so I would guess that whatever the Marauder does for attack is A) ranged and B) disabling in some way.

I don't think that most of you have seen this concept, but it IS made by Samwise. This photo was taken at Blizzcon. The unit this concept was made for is unknown (at least by me) , but maybe the Marauder looks something like this?
The grenade launcher would be very similar to the Vulture attack, but also do descent splash (The Vultures splash sucks) like the Firebat attack.
A nice little combination of them both I'd say.

true, but they have just implemented that idea until now, assuming that the Marauder = grenade launcher.

so google Marauder to find out where that name come from and wikipedia made a list that is related to that name. The only topic that deal with war was the B-26 Marauder, a WWII US bomber plane

 

i hope the marauder dont look like the one on the pic. the marine looks more powerful than that.
i think those are marine not in power suit. and im sure will see them on the campaign.

im thinking its a mech, bigger than the new firebat we seen. it would be like the juggernaut iin warhammer that can attack melee. first terran unit to melee attack. ^^

It must be the Cerberus.Some sort of upgraded ex-hardcore criminal,Reaper-like,barbaric terran infantry,the counterpart of Spectre i think.If that is true,they should make a hero out of it and give HIM a Tychus Findlay cinematic. 8)

 

A short range heavy machine gunner with a granade launcher for even shorter range maybe.

 

The name 'Marauder' sounds to me like a melee unit. I would cry if it really was a melee unit. I'd love to see them wielding a chainsaw like the one from Doom.
