So I was browing through artwork and came uponhttp://eu.media.blizzard.com/starcraft2/images/artwork/ss106-hires.jpg http://eu.media.blizzard.com/starcraft2/images/artwork/ss81-hires.jpg http://eu.media.blizzard.com/starcraft2/images/artwork/ss64-hires.jpg http://eu.media.blizzard.com/starcraft2/images/artwork/ss43-hires.jpg http://eu.media.blizzard.com/starcraft2/images/artwork/ss51-hires.jpg Every other artwork in the gallery is something from in-game or at least in-campaign, but I can remember nothing which looks even remotely like that. It looks like protoss statues, but also a bit different. Maybe Xel'Naga? Any speculation what this is? edit: other odd artwork 2.http://eu.media.blizzard.com/starcraft2/images/artwork/ss89-hires.jpg , http://eu.media.blizzard.com/starcraft2/images/artwork/ss83-hires.jpg ,http://eu.media.blizzard.com/starcraft2/images/artwork/ss25-hires.jpg Is that supposed to be infested aiur? Anyone know which building the one with all the holes in it is? The first of these pictures seems odd because of what appears to be the eye of the overmind and all the weird spines in the landscape, but it is obviously zerg Second picture has a funny lone hydralisk whose scale is completely skewered I love this guys drawings btw, details in all the places i want 3. http://eu.media.blizzard.com/starcraft2/images/artwork/ss85-hires.jpg Possibly a new supercarrier? Shame the guy used an in-game tempest though, I want to see him try to draw those. 4. http://eu.media.blizzard.com/starcraft2/images/artwork/ss78-hires.jpg Is that an ice-ray weapon or the protoss glassification of one of the Sara system planets? 5. http://eu.media.blizzard.com/starcraft2/images/artwork/ss24-hires.jpg Ominous looking space station. Does anyone recognize the planet in the background though, it is neither Char nor Tarsonis, which were locations of the important space stations in starcraft 1 and it isn't Korhal either And last but not least http://eu.media.blizzard.com/starcraft2/images/artwork/ss44-hires.jpg IS mengsk compensating for something? And why is he only ever shown in a single pose?
It looks like a protoss with zerg spines, but it is made from stone, and is beneath a necropolis. There may also be a storm brewing.
When I first saw it I thought it was Khas or something. But the mouth-mask looks like that of a Lenassai. In the second picture the column on the right looks like a hydralisk, and the one on the left looks scaly, maybe an unknown species. the design in the first artwork is different than that in the second in the fact that it has wings. the second picture also has a rock that looks slightly humanoid next to the protoss-like with crossed arms. especially in higher resolution http://eu.media.blizzard.com/starcraft2/images/artwork/ss64-hires.jpg (gonna switch all links to high-res mode after this post) The third picture looks like it was made of the same part of the complex as the second the fourth picture is the oddest, because it looks neither protoss, zerg nor terran. There is also something tomb-ish in the back the fifth picture is likely from the same place because of the appearance of Zeratul and the entrance in the back looks a lot like the one in the 4th picture. We also see that the place is near a waterfall and has multiple floors(the stairs near the side A small, bit of fun note: All of these 5 pictures contain Zeratul, yet the way he is drawn is radically different from the rest of the piece.
First zeratul pictures I guess they are zeratuls journey to that stone thingy in the trailer vs kerrigan Completely no idea about the ice ray but the 4. is the new carrier which got removed later on (tempest) It suits perfectly the background carriers, so the first one either be over detail artwork or a drawn flagship http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhHy2achRoU&feature=related 1:21 into the clip
The things in the background are obviously tempests yes, even use the in-game model, but the one on the front has a different color scheme.
IIRC the 'supercarrier' was attributed to a Protoss Hero's personal vessel. I can't remember if I read it here on on Blizz. If I'm right, It'd be cool if hero units had their own unit model. Ice Ray looks A LOT like Planet Cracker to me. Maybe it's on an ice world? It's not glassing though, that would be red. Mengsk's pose is simply because that's the post he's famous for, much like George Washington posing with one foot up on something, or Benito Mussolini with a fist in the air. EDIT: It's a carrier that launches more carriers
How do you know it's moria? It doesn't really look like any Moria pictures I have seen(those were in a red-yellow colour spectrum and didn't have the craters).
That picture is all over the place. In several places, it's called "environment Moria". (That could be the fansite kit, or something on the Blizzard-produced Sons of the Storm.) It might even have that name on the recently updated StarCraft II beta site (but it was identified as Moria earlier). Edit: The Fansite Kit calls this a Kel-Morian Combine environment. I'll see if I can track down where it says Moria specifically, but I know I've seen that before.
Kel-Morian combine does pretty much narrow it down to Moria, as they lost most of their colonies in the guild wars.
http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Aiur the second paragraph is what you're looking for i think. if you played the secret mission in sc1 theres also some hints to exactly what you're asking, but i don't want to give out spoilers here. a lot of sc2's story is also derived from the novel so thats something to do until the 27th
I know of the Xel'Naga tunnels, but there still is something odd there, because the protoss don't look completely protoss, and some of the other columns have very different creatures depicted. The fourth pictures is especially odd, because it depicts an unknown species besides something that looks protoss and something that looks hydralisk. Maybe it is previous incarnations of the Xel'naga?
