What would you guys say are the "forgotten" units for each race? What I mean by forgotten is: Which units for each race are left out of most strategies?
Well, some units aren't just forgotten, the lower tier players don't tech up and use some units. If you wan't units that people hardly ever use, it would probably be carriers for the Protoss, reapers for the Terran and nydus worms for the Zerg. These are out of games I watch and other people might have other ideas.
See, for terran I would have thought that the ghost takes the crown for forgotten unit, especially considering how devastating they can be against protoss.
I had the insane AI use ghosts against me... It was horrifying how quickly it could target things with snipe.
Lurkers... oh, we can't have those now... CAN WE?! Bastards.. @Jshep89 Insane AI, where? Thought there was only very easy?
Multiple options of difficulty vs. AI has now been enabled. I just played a quick little created games against the "medium" AI and I'd guesstimate it to be about the same skill level as a bronze player. BTW, my vote for Forgotten Terran Unit is Raven.
^^ I agree the forgotten Terran unit would probably be Raven. Or Battlecruiser, people don't necessarily forget Battlecruisers, they just never use them. I think the least used Protoss unit would be mothership, people rarely ever invest in getting them. Or at least I haven't seen them much. And for Zerg it would be the Changeling, or maybe Corrupter if you are looking for an "actual" unit.
re Zerg: Nydus worm Terran:Battlecruiser Protoss:Carrier I have seen Mothership in a couple of matches. And they didnt make any difference in the game. They went down pretty quick. I saw BC's used only once. 4 BC's tore up 6 Thor's. It was an epic battle. I saw Nydus worms used once. They didnt help the Zerg player at all.
Funny thing with nydus worms... I actually used to see them all the time early in the first beta phase but now I rarely ever see them. Also, I just thought of something.... If Nydus worms work like I think they do (its a long worm that swallows units and poops them out the other end... then how do you explain someone nydus worming into that floating island on scrap station? Oh, and for terran, I agree with ravens being the forgotten unit. Its not so much that I rarely ever see them, but when I do they are primarily for scouting invisible units. I rarely see them being really used to their max potential
Terran- The Raven by far. Mobile detection, harassment, damage absorption, splash damage... the unit seems praticly vital starting at mid-game. Too much research for people to bother? Or is everyone just cranking out medivacs? You don't see BC's very often. They seem like far too much investment for what they can accomplish. I can't say I've been able to do anything with them. Granted, all I've really tried is cranking out a victory fleet while ****in around with the comp. There must be a good combo that involves them. Vikings. They don't do much damage and can't take much flak. They make up in mobility though. I can't think of a better unit in game to prevent your opponent from expanding without a serious investment to getting that expo set up. They're great for drawing your opponents army away from an attack too. Viking+sensor tower=While you're knocking on my door, I'm pissing on your rug; you'd better run home. Protoss- Yup, mothership. Never seen one. ****... any air unit that isn't an observer or voidray. Zerg- Banelings. You can build the tech building to morph teir one units or you can move to roaches and hydras. People don't seem to bother with the green gooey goons even though they are a hard counter to numerous armies. Overseers. Spells aren't half as useful as the Raven... but come on. Mobile detection! Noobs almost never morph their ovies and mediocre players don't seem to get more than 1 or 2. You pick those off and you open the door for cloak rape. ...makes me think... can spore crawlers detect when uprooted? Not that anyone builds those.
The forgotten unit for toss most definitely is not Carriers or motherships. You don't see them very often because they're tier 3 units and rarely does a 1v1 last that long. I've seen them many times in 3v3's or 4v4s that drag on long enough. For toss, my vote would go for high templars. People make DT's to try and exploit lack of observer, collosi for mass units etc. But I've only seen a high templar used by someone other than myself ONE time in a 1v1 match (having played probably 75-100 total). Partly that may be because psi storm is nowhere near as effective as it was in the original.
I see it a lot in diamond league 1v1 and 2v2 actually so it probably depends on the level of skill of the players. Psi Storms are actually still rather good.
psi storms need good micro to be useful, so it's much more common in higher tier games. same with infestors, too. and sentries. people don't spam FF fast enough to be useful at the lower levels.
