I just recently moved countries during the time of Blizzcon, i was gone from Aug 1-8. Knowing that Blizzcon would be underway, i was waiting for a tidal wave of New things to wash over my faith in the Craft. I was mostly pleasantly surprised. The one thing that struck me most from Blizzcon was the Story/Campaign Mode Intro. There is a "real" briefing room now. At first it was somewhat odd to me, what is this? the first impression reminded me of Knights of The Old Republic. but then i sat around and thought of it. Warcraft 2 only gave a narrative on the story, a quick description of what was to be done. For its time it was quite well done i thought. Starcraft came along and upped the bar by introducing a briefing room, which i had always so muchly enjoyed. to me it was quite New Generation and gave much more feeling of involvment. Warcraft 3 then took it further by in game cut scenes in the beginning of mission which gave it even more in depth and character. It was more easily followable and with the loading maps you had a sense of were you were going. Now Starcraft 2, It takes it even much further, by opening up a more total interactive briefing room. Your commanders and colleagues are there, you can talk to them. you have a sense now where you are going. Im REALLY glad Blizzard is implementing a Galactic map like i would of liked it to be. There is much more depth in the universe, much more interaction. There are great features to see on the Hyperion. Im guessing Blizzard took some ideas of Diablo2 and the scrapped Ghost game and probably some others (such as Star Wars: KoTOR2 from my perspective) but i think it will fit well into the game, benefiting it by opening it up so much wider. though im kind of doubting the idea of getting money out of missions to buy new units for missions, it could fit into the piratesque approach Jim and the Raynors Raiders have had to take up. We shall see. I dont really know people reactions on all of blizzcon as i havent had the time to read much of the posts regarding it, but i hope it could shed some positive light on the situation.
i was amazed at how full on they have gone with the campaign, i would have been more than happy to just have the breifing rooms from sc1, which has never been surpassed by any other strategy game. its also amazing that the short cutscenes are almost cinematic quality. also, galactic maps rock
yah so how or where do you think your enemies or allies will talk in briefing rooms? like for example your raynor, and zeratul or mengs or kerrigan needs to talk to you. hhhmmm. maybe they got a tv hologram thing in there.
