I decided to ask this as I'm right now in Book 4 and I am thoroughly enjoying it. The book is simply spectacular as it has kept me wanting more as I myself and not usually fooled by some books. This series has fooled me quite often. I just love it and would not want it any other way. So now I ask who else here has read it. And for those who have I would bet on Roland if he and Chuck Norris got into a fight. 8)
The only King book I've read is "Everything's Eventual: 14 Dark Tales" and it had a short story related to the series. Roland was the main character but I don't know if it belongs to the series or is it independent. I wasn't too impressed, it felt kinda cliché. Pretty entertaining but it wasn't anything that I would read any further.
I know they exist for a while now, but after reading 'The Gunslinger Born', a spin off comic book from Marvel I'm really curious of the books.
First off, Scarecrow most short stories that are off of a main story are most likely not the same flavor and thus should not represent the whole of the Series as The Dark Tower is a very original and good series, if, you were to base all readings off of how cleche a book is then you would never be able to read good(I use good as my opinion only.) stories as you can trace stories in general back far beyond the time of Homer and many are just repeating themes and tales. Second, how is the comic series as it seems like something that is awesome. I plan to try and read them after I've finished the whole series. On book 5 now.
