Hey guys, This isn't really a complaint [not that it would yield me any results anyway] so much as an eyebrow-raising observation, which is that it seems like every third protoss word has an apostrophe thrown in there for the sheer heck of it (e.g. "Xel'Naga," "Tal'Darin," "Dae'Uhl"). I'm just wondering if anyone else noticed it, and is -slighty- irked by the ignorance of grammar and linguistics in favor of copying a cliche of alien, sci-fi nomenclature. I mean, the apostrophe really doesn't do much... I would read it much the same way if "Xel'naga" were spellt "Xelnaga," it's not denoting a catch or palatization, and I don't see a way of it indicating an absence of letters or other grammatical values. The writing staff at Blizzard used this formula A LOT for the elvish languages in the Warcraft storyline and games as well. Anyway, in fine, I'm not expecting the magical fictional languages of Starcraft to be as thought out as something like Klingon, but the repetition of this illogical archetype of naming things just seems a little... I dunno, unproffesional? Also a bit silly. But what do you think, noble folks of SC2F?
I'm ****ing drunk so don't mind me. Btw That's class. Ignore the sig on that one; not making fun. We need more well-balanced posters like you. To counter people like me... In Spanish you will see an upside down "?" or "!" at the beginning of a sentence if it ends with a typical English one. Does it add any more significance to the text? No. It's just the culture and is one of the things that defines that culture's language. I agree the extra apotheosizes are cliche. But they do make the Protoss text a bit alien (...lulz) from English text. Blizz could have made up a whole Protoss language like Tolkien's Elvish... but would most gamers want to deal with that. ****? Go try learning Zerg... let's see how overgrown bug-hounds type out *gurgle* *slither* *wet fart sound*. I understand your gripe, but, you're asking for a bit much imho.
