Hello everyone. I'm new here and also new to PC games. I just started playing starcraft2 this week so I'm pretty clueless about most strategies. I came across the 3 barracks strategy from this video. (I hope its ok to link vids here). http://www.livestream.com/trumpsc/video?clipId=pla_5ca62576-54b1-4e02-aa0b-78caf1250e24 So I keep trying to use this in my bronze league games and I pretty much get owned on most games. I build all the buildings when the video says to exactly at the right times but still have a hard time winning.. Does anyone use this strategy or something similar that they could post that might help me with my game? Thanks -MassGrunt
don't rely on a strategy 24/7. Most people in bronze league usually stick with a strategy with not even thinking about countering the other player. if you see the other guy countering your units, then simply counter him back, and try to cut your units low instead of massing them like crazy or you will just keep getting countered and eventually lose the match.
To be able to counter effectivly you need to always scout your enemy to see what he is building. You can tell by the buildings hes making or by simply seeing the units hes creating. This way you will know what to build to counter your opponent and adapt accordingly
I don't know if you have completed the campaign and/or the challenges, but it would be a great way to learn the exact counters of your units. They are really helpful. Other than that you can't rely on a series of actions to win a game. This could work against the AI,but against players you will have to improvise.I would suggest learning more tactics about the terran,as they are an awesome race. Most importantly is for you to practice.By practicing you will see that you are going to handle everything faster, combined with a good strategy and experience you will get,you are going to be a very competent player.
Thank you for the responses. I'm about halfway through the campaign but stopped playing it once I saw how much fun online play was. The problem I have with scouting is that when I get a good look at the opponents base I have no idea what I'm looking at unless they're using Terran. I guess I need to find some intel on Zerg/Protoss structures so I know what I'm looking at when I scout. Two big problems I have against Terran's are Reapers and Banshee's. Reapers - I scout them and see multiple barracks. So I think they are doing the same strategy that I am or at least something similar. Next thing I know theres Reapers killing all my SCV's and command center. Banshee's - I scout them and don't notice starports or they have them off to the side of their base and then the same thing happens....dead SCV's and command center. What I don't understand about this one is that they are able to defend against my marine / marauder attacks while building banshee's.
Ok so I've been playing all day with this strategy and a few variations online and the best results were when I only used marines. Instead of making a tech lab and marauders I only focused on making marines and rushing them to the enemy base as fast as possible. I also made 4 barracks instead of 3. Am I on the right track or will this strategy fail against better players?
if by the time you build those 4 barracks and gather 20-30 marines, your opponent has orbital scanned you and knew what he was doing, if hes a good player he probably sieged his base and researched siege tanks so he will literally blow them into pieces once you attack. always diversify somewhat
Mass marines is not a bad strategy but you can't make an entire game on it. A marine rush can buy you time to build some banshees by saving up your gas(especially if he went siege tank to counter). I wouldn't go 4-rax though in this case.... look up some build orders on different web sites but since you seem to like rax play here is a MMM i use (marine, marauder, medivac) build order that could suit you(#s are the supply you are at): 9 depot 10 rax 11 gas 12 2nd rax 13 marine 15 orbital command 15 tech lab on 1st rax and marauders throughout 16 second gas 16 supply depot 17 reactor on rax 2 18 or next 100 gas FACTORY(can slowdown marauder production if needed but max out your gas and you should be fine) 22 Starport 22 stimpack 23 1 medivac 23 reactor on starport move out and rally your prod bldgs to your attack force to send reinforcements(hot key all your prod bldgs and practice producing while attacking!) Then either expand if you can contain your enemy or build 2 more rax and try to end it with one base (good if you were able to damage his economy). This way you will have all bldgs so you'll be ready to counter most units your enemy throws at you. Make sure you get your scv number up and try to move out as soon as you first medivac is out and rally the next two medivacs and other bldgs to your first medivac. Don't forget that you need to pull back as soon as you know you will lose most of your army, you can always scout with your medivac and see his composition so you don't get destroyed. if you see a walled in terran with just a few units then drop your MM by his worker line, harrass and RETREAT if he moves his tanks in range. Remember that you can drop units right on top of a sieged tank and it will need to unsiege before it fires!! Scout, Scout, Scout!!! and yeah you do have to learn what units go with what building of each race in order to know what units are coming before they knock at your door! TB
