    So, as far as we know, the unit is a fast mech like the Vulture. It also seems like they have kinda returned the Cobra since this unit has Railgun, but the difference is it has a linear AoE meaning it will be similar to a Lurker in a way by my guess.

    It sounds good tho but may raise some questions later, whats your views on this?

    Update:
    Jackal is basically a combination of a Firebat and Vulture.
    It has wheels.
    It has a rotating turret (they must be working on that)
    Its uses fire!

    Re: Terran Jackel

    Good vs zerglings if it is fast, good vs MMM etc.
    Perhaps also a good harasser:
    M M M M
    W W W W JJ

    M= minerals
    W=workers
    JJ=Jackel
    The jackel will be able to deal damage to all the workers, therefore working like a lurker YEAH!

    Yeah it definitely seems like this unit will be a lot like the Lurker was, but for Terran. I like it. My main concern is that Blizzard still hasn't really addressed the apparent lack of anti-air in the Terran armada.

    Random comment - you spelled Jackal wrong in the title for this thread. Please change it! (it bothers me :p)

    So it isn't too much like a Lurker and fits into the realism slot, I hope the AoE damage decreases as the shot hits units, for exmaple:

    J--M1M2--M3 - -M4- M5 - -

    Lets say the attack does 30 damage.
    Marine 1 and 2 would recieve the full exposure of the force.
    Marine 3 wouldn't recieve the total 30 since lorewise and balance wise the attack would lose energy so it would recieve 25.
    Marine 4 is at a longer distance than 3 is from 2 so it would recieve 17 damage.
    Marine 5 would recieve 10 damage cuz it was at a far distance.

    The reason I hope it is like this is because the Lurker has to burrow to attack yet this unit moves fast and could probably be micro'd meaning something like this would have to be implimented.

    So know its like a ground mutalisk :D
    Perhaps the damage should get lower like: X (lets say 15) = 20, then 15, 11, 8, 6, 5. Thats 6 spots it damages.

    Added Range, Armor, and Damage would all have to be variables.
    D = 30, aR = 5, A = 2,
    30 - 5 = 25
    25 - 2 = 23

    The mutalisks attack isnt a variable, its just X (the attack + upgrades - upgrades), then X-3, and then X-6 as far as i know.

    The Mutalisk deducts damage points for every time it bounces, not how many units/the distance it is from the target.

    I think it will be only anti ground like the vulture, since the line splash effect doesn't worth much against air.

    I had this neat idea... If it could attack air, it should be able to attack inside dropships, prisms, and overlords... It'd be like a "drop" counter.

    The Jackal's attack is indeed instant, so unlike the Lurker a player will not be able to dodge. It also has been confirmed to be ground-only. See Karune posts for details - I also posted them here.

    this sounds like a great unit that can used later in the game to good effect, just think of a group of siege tanks being shot by the jackal. Plus its speed makes it nice for raids too.
    also did this information come form a new Q&A or some other source?

    Actually, if this Jackal is so similar to the Vulture, I wouldn't be surprised if its attack attributes were similar as well, which would mean it would be next to useless against Siege Tanks and would excel at slaughtering infantry/other small units. This would make sense because - unlike the lurker's attack - it has to pass through opponents to damage adjacent ones, which would be pretty hard to pull off against heavily armoured vehicles ;) Talking about lore of course. And yes, this is from the latest Q&A batch (31).

    As for the unit itself, I like the idea of a railgun and a fast vehicle combined into 1 unit, but it would've been nice to get a rough description of its appearance, which always seems to be missing from batches that introduce a new unit. I'm not too sure about the name though, a jackal isn't a too strong and characteristic animal. I hope Blizzard doesn't forget that nature has predators on lower levels of the evolution as well.

    Note that both Jackals and Vultures are scavengers.

    Nice point.
    So, similar role. Anti-infantry, not such a good siege, anti-armor, or assault vehicle.
    Good because the Terrans don't need anymore assault.
    i like who this is shaping up. The Terran are different enough, while still retaining the same feel. They were just given an overhaul. They still have a mech and now have a speeder again.
    Rail gun ftw, eh.
