many of you may have noticed that the dropship is not included in the terran video. where did it go, blizzard dident drop it it, or? any one know what happened to it?
As it is with every unit, we don't know for sure if they'll make the final release, or in any particular form, but as you can see in the video, they are in the versions we've seen.
Of course the Dropship will make it. It's pretty much a given unless the Terran somehow come up with a new mechanic for transporting units, like the Protoss and their warping. The Shuttle was cut because it was directly replaced by the Phase Prism as a unit transport. Unless there's a direct replacement for the Terran, the Dropship will be included in the final version, maybe with a couple abilities or changes in its function.
Im pretty sure the terran dropship will stay. Although its a basic air transport unit, its a very specific design and a landmark for terrans, much like the siege tank and the marine.
The idea was to show new mechanics in the gameplay videos. A flying unit that just flys in and dumps some units is nothing special and thus would be a waste of time with the purpose of the video
Besides, as stated earlier the drop ship was shown in the Protoss demo when the terrans were first landing on the map, thats how the marines were there when the zealots got there and destroyed them all.
ok, thanks guys. but i wonder why blizzard dident present it along with the other terran units.
Actually the whole Drop-Ship design was entirely based on the Drop-Ship from the movie "Aliens". Even the pilot looks the same. There is also a quote that's something like ' We are in the pipe, five by five' which is a line that was taken directly from the Drop-Ship in 'Aliens'. So I wouldn't say that it is a 'specific design' or that it is 'a landmark for Terran like the Siege Tank and Marine,' because it isn't. It was taken directly from 'Aliens'.
@ Unentschieden. If I remember correctly, it's when they're about to land on the planet. I'm not sure what it actually means though, I don't think it has any relevance to the plot or anything. I've only really remembered the line and design of the Drop-Ship through playing StarCraft, but it's definitely a total copy of the one in 'Aliens'. I'm sure of that.
I watched 'Aliens' a few years ago, and because I've played StarCraft a lot since then, I've just remembered the StarCraft Drop-Ships as being the same as the ones in Aliens. They are strongly based on the 'Aliens' Drop-Ship, if not, there are striking similarities.
